Interior noises - rattles, creaks, squeaks!

Eh, same shit. Just because it’s a different color and fabric doesn’t mean the underlying pieces aren’t identical. That’s how they fool you into thinking that it’s “more premium”.

If you think the Type R interior has superior quality over a base Civic and that it’s somehow less prone to squeaks and rattles, then Merry Christmas to you.

It costs more therefore they than can fix it. If it comes down to it then I’ll lemon law it. 44k isn’t cheap to me so I refuse to just accept it.

I understand your frustration and where you’re coming from.

But what you’re suggesting will never work. BMW’s cost far more and break down far more often with vastly worse (and costlier) problems. Ask me how I know. And virtually nobody has been able to successfully lemon law them.

There’s been a class action here and there, but generally speaking, no lawyer with half a brain would ever go down this path because it usually leads nowhere.

It’s different when the brakes are malfunctioning and causing crashes. Or the cars catch fire unexpectedly. But when it comes to even the most severe rattles and squeaks, forget about it.

Update: It took longer than expected but I have an appointment (dealer) next week to have the seat frame replaced. They had the parts but needed Honda approval along with scheduling an upholstery specialist.

Update: Took the car to dealer this morning. They could not reproduce the issues (of course) and so I went back and took the tech for a drive. Was able to reproduce the seat easily but my glove box was being nice and quiet. The glove box finally started rattling a little so I could show the tech.

They said they needed to do some paperwork with Honda and check on options. Apparently they talk to other Honda people and see if similar issues have happened and resolution to the problem. So I brought my car home (glove box was rattling nice and loud on the way home) and I am waiting for their response.

I get being frustrated with the rattles and noises but your car was literally the first one off the production line. I think it's a little premature to say that it's a lemon because your seat and glove box makes noise occasionally. Try to tighten things yourself or add felt tape to see if it goes away.

As others have suggested having the dealer tear the dash apart could lead to more noises with broken/stretched clips.

I've owned my Tacoma since new and the seats have always made noise over bumps or when they flex. The dash has always made noise where the A pillar plastic meets the corner when it's near freezing. Most of these have gone away as I've driven it more or TSB's have come out that I saw the fix and performed it myself.

It’s a budget econobox with a stiffened chassis, low profile tires, and a buttload of other performance bits. Some nvh is inevitable.

In my experience, dealerships can’t (and won’t) fix most rattles/noises, even if they attempt it. They’ll just start replacing parts at random and likely introduce more rattles in the process. I went down this path with my BMW’s and wish I had not. It only caused more stress and downtime with my car.

Whats the most crazy to me (me being a Honda SM) is that dealer had to sublet out the seat work. Hilarious lack of abilities these days. I have 6 guys that could do that job no problem. Is it a PITA? You betcha.

On the topic of noises, a few of you above are spot on with how awful chasing rattles are. Dashes come out. Clips break. These are production line, mass-produced, economy cars. These arent LS500’s (which also squeak sometimes).

My favorite customer is the panel fit/gap customer. Lord.

My experience isn’t super high. Nicest car I’ve owned was a 2019 WRX Premium. Had the nice interior with Recaro seats. This interior is LIGHT YEARS ahead of that. Very impressed with the quality and how solid it is.
