We didn’t line up because it was one lane.. there were no other cars on the road and a 2024 is500 flashed his emergencies before his exhaust came alive and snared through 2nd gear. I had no expectations, I had no thoughts at all.. just that this would be fun.

He hit his hazard lights again and I downshifted to 2nd gear.. we both forced full throttle, me a split second before he did and the outcome seemed improbable. Took 2nd gear up till the lights in my dash met in the middle.. smooth, fast shift to 3rd moments before coming to redline again.. a racers slam into 4th and the half way to redline the is500 was just about half a car length away.

The lane split into two and that’s when the guy answered my questions about his car with a very confused face. I was befuddled as well. Eventually, we gave props to each other’s cars and drove our separate ways. Is his car a lemon? Either way, what a rush..
drive safe everyone. ^^

SavageGeese tested an IS500 and acceleration was traction limited at sane speeds. Looked like fun if you can afford frequent rear tire replacements.

Although the Is500 should have won there are a couple of things that helped you.

1) Because you did a rolling start, his rwd advantage vs your fwd was somewhat negated.
2) there's a large weight difference.
-Fl5 about 3200lbs
-Is500 about 3900lbs
700lbs weight difference would be like having 4 extra people in a car.
3) na vs turbo
Fl5 has a flatter wide HP curve
Is500 peak HP is at a narrow rpm
4) you mentioned you had a slight headstart.

Don't give into peer pressure, drive safely.

IS500 is a better daily and will cook a FL5 in a straight line.
FL5 better for enthusiast driving + track.

Your logic is sound.. and a lot of good points. There was no one on the road except us and I would have gone if there was even one other car on the road. I thought it was the best circumstance to have a little fun. But I appreciate your reply and concern. Thanks bro

I disagree, I think the FL5 is a better daily because of its advantage in versatility.. but I respect your opinion because automatic can be more ideal for daily for some. And I agree that I should have been cooked but that’s why I was so confused when I didn’t get cooked, haha. Also agree with better enthusiast and track car! Thanks for your response.
