I’m starting this after owning my car since July 2024, and I think I’ve been on this forum ever since. A little backstory: I’ve always been a Honda/Toyota guy since I started driving—those are the two brands I’ve always owned. Like most car enthusiasts, I’ve had my list of dream cars: the R33 GTR, Lancer Evolution, Honda S660, and so on. My ultimate dream car would be a Porsche GT4 RS, but like a lot of things in life, that feels out of reach.

Over the years, I’ve owned some fun cars. My last pride and joy was a Lancer Evolution X, which in my opinion is the best one in terms of comfort and tunability. I really wanted an R33 GTR, but then I learned about the 25-year import rule. When the R32s started hitting the U.S. market, they were already $50k and up. I knew that meant the R33 would be even more expensive. I found a couple in Japan, but I didn’t understand the import process or paperwork back then, so I gave up. When they finally became legal here, the prices jumped to $80k and above—it felt like a stab to the heart.

I kept enjoying my Evo until the transfer case blew. At the time, I had just bought a house and my first kid was born, so I couldn’t afford to fix it. I parked it in the garage, telling myself I’d get to it later. Three years passed, and eventually, I sold it. I was mad at myself and sad because I kept putting it off—but family came first.

Being a car guy, I couldn’t stay away forever. I started looking for something to replace my Evo but couldn’t make a decision—that’s a problem I always have 😂. I told myself I’d go back to Honda and started hunting for an FK8, especially the 2017 Aegean Blue. The problem was, they were hard to find unless I traveled out of state, and I couldn’t just drop everything to do that. Then 2020 hit, the “end of the world” 😂, and prices got crazy again. I gave up on my car dreams for a while.

When the new model was announced, I liked it a lot, but my heart was still with the FK8. Then, like all married folks hear eventually, I got the little voice: “If you’re going to get another car, it has to be brand new. I’ll be really mad if you buy used.” So I waited, and eventually, I found an FL5 Rally Red just an hour from me. I contacted the dealer, but they were shady about the price. I went anyway, and the salesman hit me with a $15k markup. I was so frustrated and started regretting ever selling my Evo.

I kept looking and finally found the car I own now. I didn’t pay a markup, but I did pay $2k for window tint, plastic floor mats, and a wheel lock. I bought it anyway because my son loves blue—so that’s how I ended up with my FL5. The dealership experience was awful, from sales to service.

I have strong opinions on mods and prices. I can’t justify paying crazy amounts for some parts. Instead, I focus on maintenance every 5k miles with Amsoil Signature Series 5W-20 and a 002 oil filter. So far, it’s worked fine.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Spoon Sports magnetic drain plug, oil cap, and radiator cap
Brake reservoir sock
PRL coolant reservoir
Acuity shifter cable bushings and reverse flow coolant hoses
Verus Engineering master cylinder brace and AOS with the coolant add-on
Seatbelt protector, rear air vents, Honda first aid kit, JDM flare
OEM back seat protector, FK8 VTEC Turbo decal, Alplus aero guard
OEM rear window curtain, Accord rearview mirror with HomeLink
Amazon special front lip 😂
Rear motor mount insert (Powerflex Yellow)
Unlocked ECU with Hondata

I’ve daily-driven the car to 30k miles with zero issues so far, doing about 600 miles a week. I don’t feel the suspension is harsh, especially in Comfort mode, and the other modes are fantastic for the roads where I live.

Future plans:
H&R lowering springs
Hybrid Racing or Revel USA (Tanabe) parts
A few carbon fiber pieces (back burner for now)
Spoon drop-in filter (thanks @Clark_Kent!)
Custom tune from Jester’s—whatever horsepower it makes will be plenty for my grocery runs and school drop-offs
Wheels: ideally CE28 19”, but I might go with Gramlights 57CR or 57DR

For now, I’m just enjoying the car like I always wanted.

Sorry for the long rant/nagging 😂, but I just wanted to share my experience!.

At first glance, I thought it was strange to have a 38k serial for 2024, but it looks like an error, 3 = 2. Anyway, good luck with the build. It looks like it's coming along nicely. Get to a track day/autocross day!

Thanks! I will do that this year if possible—at least once—to take it to the track and experience it. The math is probably the same they use at the Department of Veterans Affairs 😂. I know the one with the numbers before mine is in the Dakotas. I think I met him on Facebook, but I’m no longer on the platform. I was cool to see that also, 38361 and meet the owner.

Got the Spoon drop-in filter installed on the car, thanks to @Clark_Kent! Next, I’m hoping to get the exhaust later this year so I can finally get the car tuned. I’ll see how the tires hold up by summer and probably place an order for new wheels before then. I really want the CE28 N Plus, but spending that much for a daily driver doesn’t sound too appealing. I might just settle on the Gramlights 57 DR/CR instead.

I’ll also be lowering the car with H&R springs. Since I don’t need any extra parts to dial in the alignment, it should drop perfectly. Excited to see how it all comes together! Now with the spoon decals officially have 15 JDM horsepower 🤣!

I know this will not improve the aerodynamics of the car at all, but I have always liked the gurney flaps I installed on my EVO before I removed the spoiler. I also ordered the Likewise shift knob with the EVA foam and had the serial number engraved. Thanks to @Phenom3030—I saw his and it gave me the idea to order one.

Hey, wanted to ask if you have any pics of the Versus AOS with the coolant add-on and how the install was. Did you have any issues with getting air out of the coolant lines or was there anything unexpected? Thanks in advance!

Sadly, no. That day, the coolant add-on was the frustrating part because the gasket to seal it isn’t in the form of the part—just an O-ring. I was so frustrated trying to leave it in place while putting it together that I really didn’t take any pictures.

Other things: the bolt that goes on the bottom part, provided by them to use the base to support the part to the car, is too short try to get one a little longer for your sanity 😂. The space isn’t enough, but it’s doable. Also, I daily mine first, checking it every 500 miles, and honestly, now I check it every time I do my oil change every 5k. Nothing comes out, just the bolt a little dirty with oil.

My daily commute is 600 miles per week, around 30 minutes of highway at 75 mph. Since the install, it has been 10k, and honestly, I hope the work is getting done as it should. The video they have as instructions is helpful, but it really doesn’t have the same exact explanation 100%. Still, I’m pleased with the result—no weird function on the car or anything like that.

I forgot to add this: VT Forge 19x9.5 +50. I know it isn’t the +45 that everyone runs, but I feel the rears with tires “poke” too much. I will be running the OEM Michelins for now because they still have 8/32" of tread left, even with 32k miles. I’ll see how much the life is left when the wheels arrive, but I have a plan for the Continental DSW+06 265/30/19.

I also have the PRL clutch line, HEL brake lines, and Motul RBF 600. I’ve used this brake fluid in the past and really like it. Not like I’ll be breaking any lap records on my commute 😂.

I’m still debating whether to lower the car. As you can see in the pictures, the entrance to my driveway is tricky. I’m set on H&R, but that’s the frustrating part of my situation. I know—first world problems, right!

Thanks man.. i appreciate your input. I watched the video and was not impressed with the o-ring or that bracket situation. It looked like HE didn't even put the sensor thing back where it went in the install video, so had to be a pain. I emailed them because i was like wtf is "set it and forget it", when is it suggested to change the filters, and how much do they cost. Suggested draining every 5k miles, filters changed every 2-3 years (obviously depending on driving), and the price for the 4 filters is $32... Nobody would replace those filters just cuz you have to do the seal again. So i dont understand why they are acting like their shit is so much better.. looks cool and is different ig.

It’s convenient, but not that much better. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’ve had a catch can before, and I don’t know if the OEM PCV is really as effective and efficient as it should be. I checked it at every oil change, and there was barely any oil residue in the can. That’s why I went with their option mainly because the coolant helps evaporate the humidity.

Their video, though, isn’t super accurate, and I even told them that. I also have their brake master cylinder stopper, and they recommend using a step drill bit to make a hole but honestly, that’s the worst tool for the job. So now I’ve got the part mounted with just one bolt. It doesn’t flex, but since I don’t go to the track, I’m not sure how much that will really affect the part’s performance.

This is the latest. I did a set of rear mudflaps thanks to @NeRO_CTR to give me the idea to try it out myself. I have a post on what I use regarding tools and all that. Also, yesterday, I did the smoke side marker and the rear taillight from this vendor. It is local to me he did the installation because I would loose my mind trying to do it 🤣, but the communication is superb an amazing vendor and explained everything really effectively.

I see. That does maintain a pretty low profile overall.

Does it extend past the bottom of the rear bumper at all? 'Cause, rocks will be flung!

Is 3/8 of an inch past the bumper is plenty I think.
