Locking Tab Function?

Anyone happen to know the purpose/function of the locking tab on the cargo area cover? Engaging the tab whether the cargo area cover is extended or retracted does not do anything. PIC for reference:

Never mind…Engaging the tab is for removing the cargo area cover assembly itself…Duh!

Yeah I had the same question to myself until one day I just thought, let's push it and see what happens, and it fell off... dramatically with autoretract.
