One must empathize a little bit with the aggressors. They see a race car, so they assume the driver is always looking for a race. It’s confusing to them.

It’s like that Dave Chappelle stand-up regarding the provocative attire women sometimes wear to the club (yet claim they don’t want attention) : “Excuse me. I said EXCUSE ME! Just because I’m dressed this way, does NOT mean that I’m a whore!” Dave’s response : “That’s certainly true. But you’re wearing a whore’s uniform. That shit is confusing!”🤣🤣🤣

First of all, bad drivers and assholes are everywhere. Second, there has to be at least some level of inherent understanding that driving a Type R makes you a magnet for this sort of behavior.

I'm pretty sure the bumper sticker will only make things worse.
I don't mind someone driving next to me and throwing a rev, but to tailgate for that length of time is criminal. Even when I owned my GT500, I've never had that amount people trying to race me in one trip.

The bumper sticker comment was tongue-in-cheek btw.

I'm sold if only for the Chappelle quote.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of these type "people" on the road. This is a downside of having a sporty car. Are your windows tinted?

I drive a 2019 civic sport coupe CVT. I know. I know. It's basic/cheap transportation for me and I like the styling. In my 4 years of ownership, I haven't had any issues with idiots trying to race me.

I empathize with your experience and I respect your constraint especially with your family in the car.
My windows are not tinted. I want people to see my family inside while I'm driving, I'm hoping that the sight of a 10 year old in the back seat will give them pause. I've owned a ton of Performance cars but none of them seem to elicit the same response.

Btw, a 2019 Civic is an excellent car. I have nothing but respect for it. You obviously love the car so bravo. I love the coupe styling for that gen.

Hahaha! It’s fine. Just sayin’ it reminded me of that stand-up bit.🤣 Just because I’m driving a race car, DOES NOT mean I want to race!

Ngl, it is quite fun to show out every once in a while if the conditions are right and they actually have a car worth engaging with. We are driving a Type R after all and represent a brand that precedes us, ppl are most definitely going to test us 🤷🏻‍♀️

But I understand, you had your wife & kids in the car, they probably didn’t notice and was too excited for the opportunity to see what the FL5 can do.

Maybe next time give them a friendly “no thanks” gesture and crack the back windows down a little bit so the kids can wave back at them, they should hopefully back down after that!

I think a lot are a-holes, but some actually waved as they blow by tho...
so maybe some have good intent, but bad approach?

I actually contemplated starting at thread like this myself, but never did. I've never really had a performance car, (unless you consider an Accord 2.0 one) but once my son was grown and out of the house I decided to buy a car for me after having driven family sedans and econoboxes my whole life. Call me naïve, but I never even considered or thought about any negative attention when I bought the car.

One day on the expressway on my commute to work I had some fu#king tool in a BMW come flying up from behind me and literally ride inches from my rear bumper. It was in heavy morning traffic and I would have gladly gotten to the right had there been an opportunity. The guy was just being a d!ck.

This wasn't as egregious but while driving down a 25 MPH very residential street in my neighborhood I was doing about 32-33 mph I had a guy in a Jeep Cherokee tail gate me and then speed past on the left just so he could be one spot in front me at the stop light just ahead. He really displayed his dominance over me and I felt emasculated for the balance of my ride to work.

I love chucking this car down the twistys and driving it hard when the conditions dictate just as much as anyone else, but I make it a point to be respectful and not to drive in an aggressive manner towards other drivers.

Had my FL5 since April. Zero negative attention or bad interactions on the street. Mostly compliments and nice people interested in talking about it.

@Samurai1225 I take the same approach too. Sure, I might take a corner fast or speed around a round-about here or there. But the vast majority of the time I’m just chillin’, enjoying a calm cruise…and scanning for idiots everywhere. A lot of people might think there’s something wrong with me because I drive like a sensible human being, meanwhile so many others around me drive like they’re fleeing a crime scene.🤣

Similar to @Noize . I've had the car since March and no negative attention whatsoever. All positive experiences (e.g., thumbs up, waves, finger pointing, stares, questions, etc.) thus far. I expect a negative experience at some point and I'm fine with it.

The problem with owning the Bugatti of FWD cars is people want to be close to it as though you are a celebrity. I usually pull off in middle of a crowded highway with my pen and get out and sign an autograph in the center lane and tell them about VTEC on my exhaust cam shaft. You gotta just accept you are next LVL now.
