Just changed this thread up. #1 oil., #2 PS4S in really cold garage.

#1 I've read many threads about changing oil. Some say there is a break-in oil so don't change it til later. Others say change after break-in period. I"m about 2 weeks away from storing my R for about 6 months. I know 1yr change regardless, but only picked up the car late July.
Option 1: Change it now.
Option 2: Change it in Spring.
Option 3: Change it after maybe 5000km or 3000miles. ( If it has break-in oil)

Any official advise from Honda that I've missed? (some dealers have said right after break-in and some say just like normal change, and 50/50 on it being special break in oil)...d

#2. my garage sometimes goes down to -10 celcius (14 Fahrenheit ) Other cars I've owned I've just rolled the car around during the winter. I think these cant do that when that cold? Flatstoppers be okay in very cold? I'd rather it stay summer (pic below I shot back in August) but alas I"m stuck here! (Winnipeg Manitoba Canada)

The question is when did you pick up your FL5 and how many miles you currently have.

There are plenty of debates whether the factory-filled oil is a special break-in oil, but you should change the engine oil every 12 months regardless of mileage. If you just got it a couple months ago and didn't drive much, just change it when you bring it out of storage.

I should have put build date in my post... July 26th. I know about the 1yr, regardless of mileage protocol. Thx.

That’s a tricky one, but I think I’d go ahead and change it before it sits 6 months. This way you know the oil in it is fresh and not acidic. You’ve already passed the break-in period too. Something to keep in mind is the build date. This will give you a much better idea how old the original oil actually is.

It sounds like you’ve done this before, but just to be sure : Don’t put the car up on jack stands. The suspension needs to stay loaded. Invest in tire FlatStoppers, to prevent flat spots. A trickle charger for the battery is a good idea too.🙂

Good points. Just checked. Build date is 05/24. I have always just rolled the car around a few feet every month or so. Never used Flat stoppers. However I've never had PS4+ tires.? I've read they can't move or anything past -7celcius, so I probably should get the flat stoppers. (if that's correct) Or is -10 or colder going to wreck them anyway? Always a trickle charger.

Break-in oil doesn't exist and Honda engineers hold their own debates regarding changing the oil at 1,000 miles or at 7,000+ miles. Doing either results in negligible differences in engine wear.

I'd change the oil now so that you have clean oil sitting in the block / pan for 6 months even if your current oil only has 650 miles on it.

OH, and why not on jack stands? then I could take the tires inside. Is this unique to R?

Interested in this as well, mine is going into storage next week. I've got the trickle charger and jacks. It was suggest that I put a rust proofing under the car if the garage is not going to be temperature controlled. I'll look into the flat stoppers.

me too. Cant buy the cheap ones, as they are too narrow for our tire width. looks to be almost 9" of contact. I think I will also pump the tires up to 45 or so. Should have thought about this sooner and looked for used on ebay or something. nows the wrong time of year to find a deal!

Yeah, I'm looking at the flat stoppers and car cover.
Got discussion going Sunday night cruise group in Winnipeg; guy suggested this :
Pump the tires up to 50psi and place some interlocking mats underneath. Just drive on. The tires will sink in and leave the thread pattern indented.

I have ps4s also but do it for all my cars.
