Posted this on Facebook too but I just noticed my paint is peeling on my rear bumper.. Car is garage kept at home and work. No dents or scratches near that area, just peeling paint.. Has this happened to anyone else on their FK8, FL5 or Honda?

My paint peeled after my PPF installer removed a previously installed piece from under the front bumper that wasn't applied to my liking (they took good care of me and fixed it all). Honda paint isn't exactly known to be the best, and mine was in an area that may not have gotten a lot of clear coat from the factory. In your case I don't know what would have caused it to peel like that.

same thing happened on son the wheel arch trim on my DE5 - lifted when PPF was being installed on it since they lay it on then lift and cut.

Kind of makes sense that the edges get maybe less coverage but annoying nonetheless. What'd you end up doing to fix yours? Mine applied touch-up paint since it was tiny mousebites and then laid the PPF on top. It's not noticeable unless you're looking for it but I did let my dealer know about it.

Mine was a pretty big area, too big to use touch-up paint anyway. My installer had the area repainted by a paint shop nearby. They did a great job blending it. I can't tell there was ever a problem at all. When they reinstalled the PPF they only wrapped it maybe an inch under the bumper instead of covering all the painted surface to prevent the paint from lifting again when I eventually get the PPF replaced in a few years.

I take it you did full PPF as well? How many years are you thinking you'll keep yours on?

I've had partial PPF on my truck for 7 years now (Xpel), 5 on my wife's (Xpel).

I got suntek this time around for full.

I did full front + track pack which covers the side skirts. I have STEK and am hoping to get at least the 10 years the product is under warranty for.

This is why I stopped applying PPF on my cars. The paint quality has become so poor and thin nowadays that if you need to remove the PPF after a few years, it almost certainly peels the paint off in some places. You might as well skip the PPF, accept the paint chips, and respray every few years. This approach would still be cheaper than the combined cost of PPF and a respray.

When body shops or PPF installers remove PPF, they will NEVER guarantee that it won’t pull the paint. Why? Because it often does, no matter how slow and meticulous they are about taking it off.

Front bumper corner where it meets headlight on '24 FL5. Happened during PPF install, 1/8" paint chip. Frustrated as hell as I painter taped that whole front end up from the 400 mile trip from the dealership so the PPF installer could have a perfect slate to work with.

Yawl got me thinking now. The rock chips were so bad on my Accord the first thing I did after buying my CTR was to have PPF installed. I only had the frontal areas of the car done.

wait if they caused it why can’t they repair it ???
kind of an accepted risk of the install since they have to lay the ppf down and then pull it back up to cut.

In my case, the installer offered to fix it both times it happened to me -- first time was on my truck's mirror cover and he just put some touch-up paint before putting the film back down. Second time was on the DE5 on the driver side rear door bolster (the little stick on widebody pieces) - the paint peeled off the very edges.

Annoyingly, the repair was invisible on my truck whereas on the DE5, you can kind of see if it you're looking for it (which, I always do as I wash my car  )
