update

after examining the cv boot / joint and tie rods etc, I had someone else look at it, they said that the front end components all checked out and look just fine

i washed the car and blasted the inside of the rotor shields with a high pressure washer
clicking went away for 2 hours, returned when I drove the car later that night.

doesnt look like there are any rocks in the rotor shield.
cv axle looks fine.
water entering the tiny space between the wheel face and hub would never remove the contaminents, simply temporarily wet them. after this moisture left - clicking returns.

in my mind this is a near direct confirmation that it is in fact the contaminants between the wheel face and hub

going to clean them

Are you on the OEM wheels or aftermarket? At least one poster has had "clicking" issues with NSX wheels.

Alright guys

Hit the hub and wheel mounting face. Can just use some throttle body cleaner brake cleaner w/e and buff out. If you have larger build up youll have to buff it with scotch Brite or something

Ticking went away so far maybe 10 miles driven on it as a test not much yet.

But yea obviously if the axle bearing tie rod w/e was affected, cleaning and re fitting the wheel would have no effect and the same sound would persist. This is definitely just contamination between the mounting face and nothing more

You are GOAT’ed. Keep me posted if you can as you put some more miles on it. Was it only one wheel / side making the noise?

left front wheel was making the noise. also remembered that my te37 saga s-plus are 73.1mm hub bore and the car is 64.1mm hub bore which really should be used with hub centric ring adapters which i currently don't have

when i bought the wheels I had the shop put the wheels on and i asked for hub centric ring adapters i guess they forgot but its all good for now it feels stable i just need to get those rings to ensure that it has as much structural integrity as physically possible

probably worth investigating if you have afttermarket wheels. need to discover the wheel hub bore sizing in milimters from manufacturer specs, because the car hub is 64.1mm and i suspect many aftermarket wheels just aren't gonna be 64.1mm hub bore.

When the weather's warmer out I'll try to see if my wheels make noise, but the winter tires have been super quiet, no clicking at all afaik (probably just jinxed myself lol).

I'll check the hub and wheel face at some point too if the noise comes back. Great info

That sounds like to problem right there. The OEM wheels are hub-centric. When switching to aftermarket wheels with a larger bore, you really need to run hub-centric rings. Otherwise the new wheels will be running lug-centric and would likely not be properly aligned after being installed.

so fun fact - just pulled the wheels again

it was appearing as if there was no hub centric ring - but the clearnace on the ring was so tight that it just looked like a bare hub. there actually were rings on there at the correct spec. alumnum.

so at this point a little copper anti sieze on the rings and re-test for some miles.

At this point it seems like it’s residue that makes a click noise at different times / weather conditions etc and gets faster or slower in depending on how fast the speed of the wheel is moving.

What a weird problem we have lol

Update, Did the click noise come back after cleaning the wheel hub?
