Great work! Which products and/or tools did you use?
Thanks! I first used a metal polish I had from years ago called English Custom Polish and some steel wool, then I tried it with a rotary tool, like a Dremel and a polishing wheel and that really brought out the luster. English Custom Polish is no longer, I found some info online that they changed their name to Briliant Polish, here’s their site: www.briliantpolishamerica.com (Yes with one L).

You can also use a micro fiber and Mothers polish to do it by hand or use a Mothers powerball mini/powercone drill attachment but it will make more of a mess in a small work area.

Today I put my kids front facing car seat in the middle. I used the latch system to secure it on the left and right side which was never an issue. However, the issue was always that the CTR does not have an overhead/top tether hook.

So….I bought a latch strap from Amazon. I hooked the latch strap to both tether hooks. I then hooked the car seat tether in the middle of the latch strap.

I know that sounds confusing as heck but i took a picture and posted it below. I think it should be safe…let me know if yall think there an issue with this. I am pretty happy with this because now i have his seat in the middle and 4 adults can sit in the car. Thanks!!!

I thought the rear tether is on the back of the seat and not on the trunk floor where you have it hooked. I’m curious to hear also because having it in the middle would free up two usable seats in the back.

They are, however there is no rear tether in the middle because there is no rear middle seat in the FL5. It's a four seater.

So…what are those hooks on the floor lol? 😂. I’ll have to adjust a bit. It does wobble a little left and right because the middle is slightly higher than the left and right seats, I’ll have to put something to help. But I don’t think it should be a safety issue.

I’m guessing the hooks on the trunk floor is for trunk organization accessories such as nets.

Even if you move the hooks up to the back of the seat there will still be play left and right. But I think even if you put it on the sides the rear headrests still offers play.

I just put in a car seat that has non fixed lower tethers. The previous 2 seats I had, has fixed lower tethers so the width alone prevents it from being used in the middle.

I’m guessing no one here will likely give a straight answer because no one wants to be liable. The fact is that this is a four person car. The safety measures in place are for four people.

The hooks on the floor of the trunk/hatch area are tie downs.

This. There's zero chance I would seat three in the backseat. And I wouldn't even think about placing a car seat for my child over the cupholders in the middle.

Assuming you installed it correctly, this is a non-starter. You pay $200 for floor mats, only to have to jerry-rig it to achieve complete functionality? Have you contacted TuxMats about this?
I did. I let them know and they confirmed that they tested fitment on an automatic transmission car. They said that there are some makes/models that they do not recommend for manual transmission but that this was not one of them. Despite me trying to be as clear as possible I think they thought I was referring to the thickness of the mat interfering with the clutch travel (side note: I did have that issue after first placing the mats but after using the provided clips I was able to eliminate it) rather than the rubber pad.

Unfortunately I do not see them fixing this anytime soon. And as you are all ware the manual transmission option is a relatively small percentage of the north american market so I don't think its worth it for them.

I can choose to return it up to 30 days after receiving it. I think I will keep it and just use the 3D mat on the drivers side. I may play around with taking a dremel to the rubber pad to create a beveled edge...

I returned my Tuxmats - the clutch pedal touches the mat when fully depressed and feels slightly sticky. My foot also would rub the vertical area to the left of the clutch pedal during normal use. The other major negative to me? They are so full coverage to clean them out (I used tons of clips & velcro trying to get a nice, tight, fit) is a process. My OEM all weathers I just yank out and shake off.

I "solved" the coverage gaps by making an aluminum cover that protects the right edge of the dead pedal and a floormat extension under the gas pedal. It's not sexy but who looks at this stuff?

I think the Tuxmats are a great idea in a car that's got a beat-up interior since it will cover that all up. I'd almost want to runs mats on top of them TBH. They also make sense in the back of the FL5 if you feel you need that much coverage as they should be much easier to take in & out than up front. Nice that you can buy just front or back from them.

It's a bummer they didn't work for you--I haven't had any issues with rubbing or removal/reinstall, but I also didn't use the provided clips.

I do like full coverage of the tuxmats for the passenger side and the rear. I have dogs as well as transporting stuff in the passenger footwell like takeout etc I like the full coverage.

But for the drivers side I am using the 3D brand mats that I got from rockauto and they are great. $75 for just the fronts. I used them for my FK8 as well. Quick removal for cleaning too.
