Less than 1,300 miles on my FL5 and already dealing with cracked windshield. It's not repairable so will have to replace the windshield. Does anyone happen to know whether standard Civic's windshield will work? Or will I have to order specifically a Type R unit as no other solutions exist at this point? As long as the safety equipment works well then I am fine with installing the standard (non Type R) windshield.

Thanks.

I would risk the standard Civic hatchback windshield. It's a lot cheaper, and compared to the Type R windshield has IR and acoustic protection in it. The seals around the windshield for the Type R and regular sport touring hatchback are the same, so I'd assume it fits.

Are you going through insurance? I went through insurance, with $250 deductible, for my FL5 to be replaced with an OEM FL5 windshield. The invoice price was ridiculous, $3438, at a Honda dealer. I would've paid the same deductible whether I went with the FL5 or standard Civic windshield.

I had mine replaced with the OEM PN, because the glass company went by the VIN. I have zero deductible glass insurance and unfortunately glass coverage is a must in AZ.

My understanding is the CTR windscreen is thinner than the regular hatch PN, but the regular hatch PN has desirable features.

I can confirm the CTR glass is very thin, though my comparison is with a '72 MGB convertible.

Type R dont have acoustic and thermal blocking hence thinner and lighter.

I have not been able to find any forum or Facebook posts with anyone reporting using the regular civic windshield on the FL5. I think the main concern is camera calibration issues. If this works out for you, please let us know as it would be a huge savings for anyone who needs a new windshield. The price delta is 1k+.

Update as the new windshield was installed today. Took a long time to sort through the options and align with the shop on best path forward (given my circumstances). I didn't go through insurance and wanted something else than the same exact spec as the stock windshield is too brittle. Didn't want to spend $3K+ and have the same issue 3 months down the road. Type R is my daily so having more resistant glass is a plus.

The stock glass is made by Fuyao and I wanted to get Pilkington replacement. Was told Pilkington is a good choice. The installer said Pilkington in their database was also supplied by Fuyao brand so I suppose Pilkington doesn't manufacture their own glass for Civic. Instead, I opted for SCM glass (Sisecam Automotive; Turkey); NAGS FW05681 GTY. Installed under 2 hours with full ADAS calibration. The installer mentioned the calibration took longer than normal Civic but it was done well and so far everything works as expected. All-in, ~$850 in the Bay Area, which is a steal.

Did I make the right choice? I don't know... time will tell.

Beautiful. Can you read the label engraving, does it say anything like acoustic or ir on it?
Edit: specs say Windshield (Solar)(Acoustic Infrared Interlayer).

Have you noticed any lower noise on the highway?

Can't really tell a difference on a highway but I've driven it less than 20miles since install. Will update after a few days to see if there is a difference.

Put about 200miles on the car since installing the windshield. Unable to tell any difference between the stock windshield and the new one in terms of noise reduction. I would have to drive them back-to-back and any difference would be marginal. I'll share another update in a few weeks to see how it's holding up. So far, happy with the outcome.

I also went with a aftermarket windshield. Everything calibrated and works.
