Sweet! The VR experience with GT7 is honestly surreal, so I'm glad they finally added the FL5.

Maybe I am missing something but I find it interesting that the game has it listed as a 2022 model year car. I was under the impression that there were no Type Rs globally (FK8 or FL5) in 2022.

Obviously, that literally doesn't matter at all but something I noticed.

Can't wait to get the update!

GT7 is such a disappointment. The original Gran Turismo is almost single-handedly responsible for me getting into cars in the first place, certainly Japanese imports... and I built a complete sim rig in anticipation of GT7. But ultimately it's just been the same game with updated graphics for 20+ years now, and the fact that we're what, 2.5 years in after its release and they've added like... 15 cars total and most of them are not all that exciting.

The physics are ok, as long as you don't get caught in a rain storm with racing tires, or drive a rear-engined car. The graphics and presentation are great. But the car choices... not really much has changed since 1997 in that regard.

I hate Horizon even worse, but I've always been a fan of Forza Motorsport. It's not perfect, but it does many things better. The "collection" element of driving many different types of street or race cars on race tracks is definitely one of them.

I would be completely and utterly shocked if the FL5 (and probably DE5) are not in the game at launch, which is IIRC October 10.

Yeah the shift away from the single player focus really killed it for me. I sunk in so many hours with GT5 that it was insane. GT5 had DTM, NASACR, WRC and so many cars. They made it much harder to collect cars now so they removed the whole Pokémon catch 'em call feeling of getting all of the cars.

GT6 should have never released on the PS3, it released after the PS4 was released and PI knew about PS4 so it was really strange to me that they decided to make their next game for the PS3 which was at the end of its life cycle. This blows because the only GT we got last generation was GT Sport and now its GT7 lol.

Like you I was really hyped for GT7, I was honestly going to buy a PS5 for it. After I saw the reviews Im not missing out on much. I agree about Forza I never was really a fan of it but apparently Forza 4 was the peak of the series. The next one will be coming out soon and be free on gamepass so I'll check it out.

Hopefully they add the FL5 and DE5. Right now, not on the initial car list, but still some time before release.

I sunk many hours into GT7 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've got the new dualsense edge controller for the PS5 and programmed the paddles for upshifts and downshifts + paired with the VR headset I don't think I'll ever touch a Forza game. It's truly an exhilarating experience I have gamepass though so I may jump in just to see what they improved upon.

I love GT7 and I would like to play it more. Now that the FL5 is in it I may just do that!

It isn't perfect but it is accessable.

I'm going to settle the NRing run once and for all.

I'm not saying it isn't enjoyable, it just didn't get to my probably unreasonable expectations. I'm being a real Star Wars fan right now, I know...

Also I understand and acknowledge the VR aspect. My guess is that's where a majority of the dev cycles went towards. As much as I'd love to try it out, there are two things holding me back, one much more than the other:

a) locking into a proprietary Sony device with the PSVR2. I know quality costs so it's not so much the price... it's that I already have an "Oculus" Quest 2 that has been collecting dust virtually since I bought it and it's not an appealing prospect of doubling down on that just so I can have VR headset for PlayStation...

b) VR continues to make me nauseous if I play more than give or take 20 minutes at a time. This is the one that severely holds me back from trying it.

All this being said, I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of GT7, and I've actually started to revisit it in the past few days as I gear up for Forza Motorsport. As much as VR is apparently a transformative experience, I have to assume it can't be more transformative than playing on a decent sim rig. As mentioned I spent about $3k building out a sim rig for use with GT7, with the intent of expanding to Asetto Corsa and iRacing but never did get that serious... probably because GT7 didn't quite deliver fully on my expectations. Maybe Motorsport can let me get the full value out of it... especially since I just spent another $400 on a wheel/hub just to play on Xbox.

The other thing that kind of kills me about GT7 is their catalog of cars are severely outdated. Alot of their cars are still last generation vehicles from when GT Sport came out, and not many are new which kills alot of the joy of it.

If you haven't yet tried it, get BeamNG.drive

https://www.beamng.com/

My kid has a pretty decent sim rig and that game is a really good sim and has great physics. Super customizable and there are tons of community mods. The bass shaker was a nice addition to the setup as well. Waiting for motion seats to become reasonably priced to finish it off.

Completely agree there, catalog of cars is not good.

Your points are all valid, and I too get nauseous with VR but in GT7 I don't get sick at all. I HIGHLY recommend you grabbing one and experiencing it. Especially with that rig set up you got going already.
