I hate seeing posts about Type R's getting stolen. Here are a few good/inexpensive products to keep your car safe!

Yes it’s definitely a feeling of feeling being violated. That’s one thing you don’t do it’s a party foul and that’s someone messing with your car or your girl and in that order 😆

I hate this happened to Paul. I've watched a few of his videos and remember when he was searching for an FL5. Stay safe out there fellas.

Man, what a shitty story. And the idea that you could basically hand the perps over to the police, but they have little incentive to go after them?! That would really piss me off. That guy is taking it better than I would!

Also, if you’re gonna steal my car, at least have the decency to chop it up and sell the parts, or ship it overseas so someone else can enjoy it. God knows I don’t want it back after it’s been thrashed and had blunt roaches stubbed out on the seats.

That’s the same clip I just watched today but felt bad about posting it here so I didn’t .Just didn’t feel right doing it wether it was on YouTube or not felt so bad for him.

Saw the video yesterday too, really feel bad for the guy. What sucks the most is that there's zero prosecution, or more importantly, incentive to prosecute. If some judge got his car stolen, I'd bet the guy who stole it would be in jail the next day.

Damn that sucks!
Sounds like Brother did not do one single thing to prevent his FL5 from being stolen. Never said how long the car was gone either.
We should not have to do anything, but in this day and age, WE HAVE TO!!
In all fairness to him, he's doing what most FL5 owners are doing for theft prevention or deterrence - nothing. Most aren't taking meaningful steps to prevent this. A Faraday pouch/box and Apple AirTags will not prevent your car from being stolen. Unless you're running a proper kill switch, OBD lock, and/or a security system you're exposed.

I’m guilty of this. I was planning on installing a hidden switch last summer to interrupt some critical ground, but never got around to it. I will be prioritizing this next spring.

Oh also - if you want an easy thing to do if you happen to need to park the car for an extended period of time - there’s a mini fuse under the dash for the fuel pump. You can easily pull it out and stash it for a little bit. Car won’t even crank if it’s out.

When I bought my 2025 FL5 I immediately did the following:

1. ODB lock https://vargasturbo.com/product/vtt-obd-lock-odb-port-locking-tool/
2. Steering wheel/Clutch bar https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R453BKR
3. Alarm from Viper
4. Front and rear dashcam

This year I added a garage. I bought a 16x24 shed off of Costco Next. Had my local contractor put in a slab and the shed vendor came and installed the shed in 3 days. https://costco.gorillashed.com/products/titan FL5 just fits through the door. Added a camera and this impressive looking lock https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002DY7DRY This turned out to be a very cost effective way to add a garage to the property. The estimates I got from contractors for a garage started at double what I paid for the total install and went up from there.

I think the only thing you can do is add layers of deterrence.

Here is the shed after it was painted and before I put the finishing touches on it. If you look closely you can see the "curb ramps" at the transition from driveway to slab which were also a significant cost savings over pouring a ramp (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F8HXDLFD).

11th Gen Honda Civic I hate seeing posts about Type R's getting stolen. Here are a few good/inexpensive products to keep your car safe! shed2

Goddam man, watching that video gets me so angry. Why would you willing steal something someone worked so hard for, and not even to get full price for it? Stealing camrys and normal civics makes sense since you can part them out, but a type R has so many bespoke, identifiable parts - I hope these guys get their cars stolen.

Because there are no consequences. Funny thing is they were casing the block the night before in a different stolen car and crashed into my neighbors suv while scoping my car out. I have them on camera hitting the brakes while looking at the FL5 and then boom! They bailed with the doors left open and the engine running. Scumbags. It was some little old lady’s up the blocks car.

Oof horrendous read.

I’ve parked my car at an undisclosed location for the foreseeable future with the amount it’s been targeted lately. Last night 3 Hondas were stolen a block away. I am sure my car was on the list last night.

The door cylinder lock is only $40 but I’m tired of replacing it and them fucking up my paint with the big screwdrivers they use.

These guys are armed too. Someone who confronted them, had a gun pulled on him. Only a matter of time till they’re taught a lesson and end up on a tshirt.

Lots of the strikers listed on the telegram app too. Saw a few type Rs.

A few items I found peculiar from the Reddit post:
  • The ODB-II lock was clearly neutralized. From the beginning, I was never trusting of those devices, and I've seen at least two posts where that hardware was disabled, and the vehicle was stolen.
  • The OP mentions, "Along with 3 other FL5s and a Type S, all abandoned and stripped in the same way." That's astonishing, 3 others were found in the same way. If you look in the background, you can see what appears to be a stripped Boost Blue FL5. Oakland is a wild place.
  • Layering theft deterrent mechanisms was always a good best practice; however, the standard OBD-II lock, Faraday bag/cage, and AirTag leave you exposed - a kill switch is a must, and the other items are ancillary.
