I've only had a few bird droppings to wipe off the FL5 so far. Maybe 4-6 hours in place each time, no damage or marking. I haven't even waxed the car yet either. Whatever the dealer sprayed on there at PDI is still beading. Assuming they put something on there - they didn't advertise that they did.

I've only had one car that ever showed paint damage from bird droppings, and I'm certain that was defective paint. That said I never left bird crap to sit more than a day or two.

Assuming the dealer won't do anything, OP can get the spoiler repainted for $300 or so. Any half decent paint will hold up and I wouldn't worry about it after that. For peace of mind they could slap on some DIY PPF. Or even cheaper, stick a $20 sheet of black vinyl right on top of the wing now and forget about it!

I don't think your car was properly ceramic coated to be honest. It's also not "Honda"s ceramic coat, whatever the dealership offered you was boogie woogie. Probably just used a spray "ceramic" coating lmao.

Yea for sure I know Honda's version of "ceramic coating" or whatever they call it, probably isn't the greatest, but they still automatically add it and charged me for it.

But update: So I contacted my salesperson about all this and they told me that yes paint is covered from bird poop etc, and to call the number on the paperwork regarding the paint protection stuff and that they could come to me to fix it. So I look at my wing again and it looks like it's cleared up A LOT. Like now you have to really get at a certain angle, close one eye, and squint just to see where the bird poop was. So I'm thinking MAYBE the day that I cleaned it off, since it was still "hot" outside (high 70's), it just took a little longer to REALLY clean off? I've only wiped it with a chamois cloth once since then. Like it's to the point to where I wouldn't even want to call anyone to come fix it, bc it's hard to even see what to fix.

Bird droppings should be removed immediately, I don't care what coating you think you have to protect it- things like this can and will happen, and yes a sunny 79 degree day could cause permanent damage in a matter of seconds TBH...

Also, I'm not completely convinced the wing undergoes the same painting process as the body of the car, or even if it does, the material is probably different enough to where it may be more susceptible to things like this. I gotta be honest, looking at that pic I can see some pretty gnarly scratches. How are you washing your car? Coating can only go so far if you're actively scraping the shit out of your paint when you wash it...

Also possibly any coating they did apply wasn't applied to the wing at all. Hopefully the dealer takes care of it... but man, those scratches... investigate the root cause of those. Birds didn't do that.

It could have been iron contamination + reckless PDI wash like mine.

When I took delivery of my car, the entire rear of the car from around the hatch back was coated in iron particles. I've never seen anything like it, must have been from the railroad. *I'll add that I didn't notice the iron until I got home, 2 hrs away from the dealer.* There was one spot on the very end of the hatch above the tail lights that when the dealer did the initial wash (I'm not picky about that stuff and they did a great job otherwise) they scratched the hell out of the paint dragging the iron around. The spoiler was probably taped up pretty good because it wasn't too bad but there were some scratches on it.

I bought iron remover for the first time and damn near used a whole bottle on the car. God awful smell. I though I had pictures but I can't find them. I'd spray the whole thing down and it looked like the car had ebola, bleeding from every pore. Rinsed and repeated until it was mostly clean. Then I was able to polish out the scratches. I went over the car in detail and didn't find any more scratches like that.

Wow nobody talks about the smell of iron remover! I got mine from CARPRO and it smelled exactly like skunk. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed!

Mine was straight rotten egg smell. It's all about that sulfur I guess.

Be very careful with decontamination products and all detailing products for that matter. The active ingredient in most decon products is TGA and while safe for nearly all automotive surfaces, it's hazardous to your health. Wear appropriate PPE and only use it in a well ventilated area. That's the end of my PSA, and happy decontaminating!
