Too much to respond to and I'm already pretty bored with this thread, but I think I want to double down on some of the points that were made around the HRC prototypes, because I wasn't clear enough about how much that fiasco influences my thoughts on this topic.

I don't think there's a market for this because it would have been the HRC cars. Honda built them and paraded them around... as @ABPDE5 mentioned it's been 2 years since the yellow DE5 and I believe the FL5 still has recent YouTube videos to look at. Nothing came from any of that aside from a half-assed booth at SEMA last year, right? The one where they showed all the white label bullshit they tried to pass off as HRC parts. No word since then, no availability, no reference to them being dealer-installed and warrantied etc. etc.- you can't even buy the parts themselves through Honda. But you can for sure buy them through Acuity, KW, RV6, Titan7, etc.

My faith in Honda actually applying the effort to engineer and build this super special street legal racecar is not high based on this outcome.

Now. If they actually did it would I consider buying one? Probably. But I honestly don't think I would. First of all, just look around at what happens with "special edition" things. I don't feel like grabbing references but there's plenty to go around. That recent Swatch/Audemars Piquet situation should be all the proof you need, and that was a $400 plastic watch. I already put the thought into the possibility they'd take the HRC Integra to market- they built one, after all- and if it was less than $80k. But would it be after playing the dealer allocation/markup game? Could you even buy one through an Acura dealer, or would it be sold straight through HRC? Could anyone trust an Acura dealer to even deliver a special version car like that, let alone try to service it?

All this implies there is a market for the car, and again- depending on how many they make, there could be. If they only make 300, I'm pretty sure they'd find 300 people willing to spend the money on one. That would be easy. But there's absolutely zero precedent for it so this is all just 6 pages of wishful thinking, that I've happily contributed to but as has been pointed out, my forum tone is the general equivalent of resting bitch face.

Honda isn't Porsche. I just don't see the point in wasting time wishing they were.

Good post.

The HRC prototypes didn’t go far enough for me and looked more like body kits.

I would not want Honda to act like Porsche. When I wanted to purchase a new 991.2 GT3RS they would not sell me a car. I had to buy a used GT3RS with a few hundred miles on it. I had problems trying to buy a 991.1 GT3 new, and a GT4RS.

The way to do a special edition is to produce enough that they aren’t impossible to get but not so many they’re sitting on lots. Ducati announced the Desmosidici RR in a limited number and then later upped it. Prices were high for a while but I could have gotten one at MSRP. When I purchased an 1199R they required a few discussions with the dealer but worked with me and made the process seamless. Honda COULD do this if they wanted to but you’re likely right, they won’t.

This is pretty much what the HRC ITS Concept is, but it really has just been a showpiece.

Hopefully we can see a Civic Type R LE like the FK8

LE like the FK8 would be a disappointment to me. They already did one for Europe and it was a black roof, a stripe graphic and some trim.

does anyone know exactly what mods are allowed to the FL5 for IMSA TCR competition. I follow KMW team quite closely and they are super competitive.... would be interesting to know what IMSA allows and how much hp diff. there is to our stock units. thanks. frank

If Honda became anything like Porsche, those poor type Rs would be garage ornaments (a bunch already are).

I had a coworkers friend buy a type R explicitly to resell it in a few years, kept thinking to myself "it's just a Honda".

Honestly it's a great car the way it is. Tune it and it gets even better. I daily mine. I just went out and captured logs for Derek actually. I traded my 24 fl5 in for the 26 and actually paid less for the 26 then I originally paid for my 24.

I love my cheap Porsche! 😂

The TCR link I provided in the first post lists the modifications in good detail. JAS website has some additional info. I think they’re limiting to 350hp.

I made a post years ago outlining the mods on the FK8 TC, FL5 TCR and the DE5 TCX car. If you search on my profile you could find some good information about it if you are curious.

The TCR brochure is kind of for a general TCR car though, because there are different TCR Leagues there are different regulations so there are some changes needed to be done based off of the regulations.

JAS first started making them but eventually HPD started making one too. Not sure what is the difference between the two.

For the TCR I believe its mostly just FBO with a larger turbo. Its definitely the most heavily modified version the FK8 TC is the most closely related to a stock FL5.

HPD partnered with JAS to make the FL5 TCR car. I’m not aware of any other builder.

It would be great to have a more hardcore version but it needs to be in the 60’s at most or it’s dead on arrival. This is still a Honda civic we are talking about 49k is already a reach.

To be fair on the price, I know plenty who paid well into the high 50s for a type R. Make it limited enough and some person with more money than sense WILL buy a 80k type R. Just look at the ARTA type Rs.
