I'd highly recommend a test fit as well, I have some concerns about those big spokes fitting over the brake calipers. :hmm:

If it is just looks, wheel spacers and lowering springs should get you the height and any wheel that you'd like in the 40 to 45mm offset should too.
i dont want to lower it or use spacers

Honestly, they don't look that good. More... interesting than good. But now that I think about it, they're interesting in the sense that someone wearing a top hat like willy wonka would be interesting. But ultimately, not a look that would people would try to emulate. If you get my drift.

Subjectively, of course.

But since you appear to be asking for guidance, I'm here to give it to you. I'd stay away from this. Far, far away. My eyebrows raised once I saw they were SUV wheels, now getting some actual feedback how heavy they are, this is a no-brainer. They could be free and they still should never go on this car.

Whether you take this guidance or not is up to you...

TBT i didn't know they were almost 40lbs a piece.. i thought they were closer to 30lbs.. I'll still be continuing my search for some 19(x10?) inch wheels. I appreciate all of the input - it has all been very helpful even if i didnt agree lol

Believe me when I say they are CHUNKY! These Type 132 makes the OE FL5 wheels look like toothpicks! See them in real life and you'll feel the mass - pictures don't do them justice! Also, I think these wheels would look funky wrapped with rubber band tires, which is what's needed to fit onto the FL5. Of course, this is just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love these wheels. It's one of my favorite, but on the X5!

FYI - the 19x10 are the rears. Fronts are 19x9.

The thing about "what everyone else has"... there's a reason for that.

You can get creative and still stay within the boundaries of reason. Slapping SUV wheels on a car like this, developed specifically with weight in mind as an enthusiast vehicle- just what would you actually be trying to accomplish?

It's a philosophical approach, and you're free to do as you please. People ruin nice cars all the time, just don't expect a forum full of enthusiasts to happily cheer you on.

edit- I knew the wheels reminded me of something. You want to do this "right", with that aesthetic of the 132s plus something that's underrepresented in the FL5/DE5 community? Make something like this "work"; they're 3-piece so size and offsets shouldn't be a problem... I personally just havent' seen anything like this on a FWD platform. It would absolutely turn heads. But you better start saving lol.

This is a really good point. The conventional wisdom exists for a reason, and the aftermarket is only so big.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the look of the bronze-colored version of those BMW wheels on an FL5, but practically speaking it's not gonna be an easy/cheap/good idea.

I get what you are saying. Here’s the thing. I started this thread just asking about a wheel size and fitment. You’re reason for saying they don’t work is weight and you don’t like the way they looks. I get it, I’ve accepted it, I’ve moved on. I’m not sure why everyone is OBSESSED with pushing 18 inch wheels on this car. Give me a reason why you think I should go with a smaller wheel that looks like shit on the car and doesn’t do anything beneficial for me personally?

Quick question: who pays the car monthly? If that’s what you want or what fits your needs, do it. Don’t get beat down because of the so-called “purity” of JDM. I will be rocking 19” on mine because 18” wheels are hideous on this chassis. FK8s have a pass, and if you track the car, I guess the only reason to go 18” is for cheaper tires and a little bit of curb protection. In the end, if you like 19” and they’re BMW wheels that clear the Brembos, do whatever you want. No one else is footing the bill for the car. I be using on mine 19x9.5+50 not like everybody is running I don’t like the +45 so I went other way. If that what you want man sure some people will be mad but the title is under your name and people will still be upset and bitching about it.

lol true. I am unbothered by the critiques of the visual appeal. I do still appreciate the help that the disagreement has brought about tho.. thats why im here - not to get approval or praise for my choices, but to brain storm, and get answers or solutions to (potential) problems. I will not be putting 18 inch wheels unless i stumble upon deal for winter tires - i still prefer a 19 because i dont want my car to look like this unless there is some sort of magic that it gives my car.

When did 18s enter the chat? I must have missed that part while you were arguing with people trying to save you from a huge mistake. If you're talking about the wheels I linked that's just what google fed me- you can order 19 x whatever the hell you want, those wheels are made to order.

There's nothing at all wrong with 19s. I used to think the exact same- no way was I going to put 18s on my car, I thought it looked like shit (FWIW, the FL5 gets away with it way better than the DE5...).

And since you asked for reasons for 18s- I changed my tune on the 19s when I started getting more serious about track things and saw the disparity in tire availability. They simply don't make the tires I want in 19" sizes that work for this platform. Plus, some wheel designs actually do look good in 18s- and I saw some both in pictures and in person that changed my mind.

But ultimately no one is challenging your wheel size selection (although again, I'd push on the 10" thing if you don't have a particular reason for it- you wouldn't even want to use the OEM DT1 PS4S that were literally made for this platform on 10" wheels so I fail to see that connection...)

But when the 19" wheel comes from a BMW SUV, that raises questions.

Here I was thinking someone asking for guidance actually wanted to hear guidance.

People get WAY too defensive, too fast on this forum. Especially when asking for help or opinions for some reason.

Yes, 18s entered when you suggested an 18 inch wheel along with the other person that suggested i lower it and put spacers on it. YOU suggested a wheel for me instead of what i was looking at and didn't even pay attention to what slop you were sending.. gj.

not sure if you are getting in your feels or something - but i have continued to thank everyone for their help.

Also, what is so confusing about my initial post -
" This is definitely my area of least expertise. It looks like a few people are running 19x10 wheels, and 275/30 tires. I guess I just wanted to know if there were any other options for tire sizes on the stock suspension or what the suggested "range" would be (for 19x10 +45 wheels). I do know that tires are like shoes and the same numbers doesn't mean its the same size. TIA"

So, if i need to clear something up on my questions or if you want to continue to help me as you have been - i appreciate it. If not then thanks for your input and ill keep what you had to say in mind.

Also, not sure how i was getting defensive when I'm literally just explaining.

"Didn't pay attention to what slop you're sending"... "Getting in your feels"... ok. Totally the type of language someone "just explaining" would say!

This is what I get for trying to talk someone through trying to put X5 wheels on their FL5. GLWT.
