Picked up a fully loaded boost blue Type R today and so far, really digging it. Options included the forged wheels, carbon fiber spoiler, alcantara wheel/shifter, and a few others.
Some brief comparisons to my traded in 11th gen Si
-Si shifter felt smoother. Not sure if the FL5 needs more break in but so far the Si's manual felt better. Type R shifter is not bad, just a little bit notchier then the Si. If the Si was a 10, the Type R is a 9.5 however the FL5 clutch is superior (better engagement and feel).
-FL5 same basic interior layout, just much more premium. Bose stereo sounds identical. Of course the seats, full digital gauges, and other updates like the lighted door inserts and materials used are a welcome upgrade. At 6'1'', I appreciate the added headroom in the Type R with no sunroof. Seats are fantastic even in my 200lb frame.
-FL5 steering/handing very similar to the Si around town but I need more seat time in the twisties for better comparisons. PS4s > F1 AS2s
-FL5 comfort mode suspension feels a bit softer to the stock Si with it's lack of electronic dampening. Sport dials it up past the Si and R mode even further. R mode suspension is comically bouncy but adds to the experience.
-FL5's additional power and R mode are incredible, this thing rips!. Rev hang is gone! Exhaust note is a bit better but not by much.
Overall super happy with the upgrade and look forward to ownership!
