TRUTH! My dealer said that they were probably not going to sell as low for the next one. This is not going to ease up until Fall when the 2024s become a reality... assuming it eases up at all.
What i want to know is... where are all these manual xmission people coming from?? The dealers have systematically wiped out manual for over a decade "because there aren't enough customers to justify it." Well, either every stick driver in the country is trying to get this car... or, we gotta run out of drivers at some point. The manufacturers are pushing out a ton of great cars in this 'last hurrah' of this era -- not everyone wants the CTR. ...or do they?
At/near MSRP, I get it. I cannot think of another car that offers this level of performance and engagement for <50k. There's also a huge nostalgia kick if you've followed Honda/Type R's in the past, which adds a premium for me.Yeah, I think the CTR strikes the perfect balance of performance and practicality and esthetics AND some might be grabbing them for collectibility on top of all thatā¦being probably the last ICE-only CTR. Itās really a great car for older and younger enthusiasts alike, whereas Iād say the FK8 was designed for people 30 yrs old and younger. The FL5 will be a classic (as will the FK8). Also, whatās kind of funny to me, is that younger people are getting more interested in manual trans. Itās similar to the resurgence in vinyl records. We have so much digital crap and touch screens everywhere, it has driven some to seek out analogue things. Mechanical stuff is fascinating to them.
But anyway, thatās my take. The FL5 is simply attracting a larger audience.
What perplexes me is how many people are willing and able to pay 60-70k+ for this car. It's astounding. I called so many dealers that swore their car sold for 15-20k over MSRP and that was required for all future allocations. Beurkle Honda told me they were at 15k ADM and "every accessory" (literally laughed when I asked which ones and said all of them). Their (paid, nonrefundable) waitlist extends out to 2028.
Maybe they're all bullshitting me, maybe not. But the cars are sold, so I'm inclined to believe they did sell for a lot of money. And at 60-70k+ for this car, it just doesn't make sense to me. But I suppose it does for others.
Several of my car enthusiast coworkers were ribbing me for wanting to buy a Honda (our parking lot is almost exclusively Teslas and 911s). Their jaws hit the floor when I told them this car was going for as high as 80 grand.
