Coolant Temp Help

Hello fellow friends,
Could you please advice regarding on ECT 2 increases gradually above 90 Celcius to 95, 96 and to 100 C and peak 102 C then drops sooner below 95 C and repeat the cycles as I kick down high boost on canyon uphill road.

Should I switch to 5W30 or stick to the Amsoil SS 0W20 or alter fan activation earlier on ktuner?

An oil weight change wont necessarily change your ect. You want your coolant to increase and decrease in temp since it means it's removing heat.

You should know what's normal by just driving normally and looking at your temps. Regardless 102C isn't outside the ordinary.

I recommend 5W-30 over 0W-20. It's okay per Honda UK owners manual too. 5W-30 provides a thicker oil film, without noticeable fuel economy changes. Or 0W-30 if you are often driving in sub-freezing weather.

I live in Southern AZ. I think my car got down to 35F one morning outside in Sedona, otherwise not below 50F in my garage. I use 5W-30 with no issues.

BTW many oils use synthetic base refined in Saudi Arabia, so don't get surprised by the recent price increases.

I am asking if it is dangerous or not healthy for long term use in this case. Everything is fine. Actually I know it because I keep monitoring the ktuner V2, if I dont, I just drive it away as I wanted and everything feels normal. I just fear of suddenly blow it up. Either the CVT temp that reaches 115 C or engine scoring because high boost pull.

I see, but have you tried the 0W20 and any difference? Yours Type R right?

Yes a hatch L15B7 CVT with TSP Stage 1 Non Si tune.
3 inch catless downpipe
3 inch frontpipe
HKS exhaust
Intercooler upgrade
93 octane.
No track purpose, only spirited driving + normal driving around city with tropical and humid ambient 32C.
Since car brand new until now I am using Amsoil SS 0W20 but now I am concerned about it although everything is normal.

These oil questions never seem to go anywhere. Use what Honda recommends. 0W20 or 5W30 and watch your temps, change with the right frequency, and you’ll be fine.

Did you mean oil temp? If yes, unfortunately I can't monitor it. On my Ktuner V2 only ECT available.
