Been hearing people using the Autel AP200 to put the Civic's rear brakes in service/maintenance mode, so I had bought the Autel AP2500. This one is advertised as the newer model over the AP200, so it's assumed it does everything the AP200 does. Found out it does not and cannot even put the Civic rear brakes in service/maintenance mode. Just want to put it out there as a PSA for people interested in buying one of these Autel BT scanners. Get the AP200, not the AP2500.

I got this one. I know it is kind of expensive, but it hasn’t let me down so far. It is marked at $199. The only annoying part is that you need to update it, but it is free to do so. Can’t complain; it is really simple to use, and I use it on my wife’s Ford too and on my Scion XA.

That's a nice scanner. I have an Ancel scanner that I used before getting the AP2500. I wanted one of these BT scanners due to their size and convenience, and they're not that expensive.

You do not need to put the car in service mode to do the rear brakes.

I do it just to save a headache, but I know people disconnect the motor and also do it with a tool that looks like a Torx but is a nut, I think. Also, when I did mine, the caliper didn’t tread back like all old Hondas used to do. I just pushed mine and did it while it was there. I did the Cooper bushing upgrade.

I know it's not hard to remove the EBP motor and manually wind it back. The FL5 loves to burn through rear pads, so it's handy to have a scanner with the EPB functionality. Easier and time saved is a win in my book. The AP200 isn't very expensive.

You don’t have to wind it either. Just when you park, DO NOT, set the E brake.

Really?! Interesting, wonder what is "service/maintenance" mode is for? My 1st car with EPB, just want to do things the right way if possible.

This is interesting, there was a whole thread on this on the Integra forums and it seemed the choices were a) buy the scanner tool to put it in maintenance mode or b) wind the motor.

I just want to double-click on this because I have to my brakes soon and havent' done them on this platform yet, and I thought I recalled someone saying online somewher that they tried just not setting the e-brake and it led to catastrophic outcomes.

I literally did mine in the street with hand tools and without a scanner.

Park vehicle e brake off, chock wheel(s), remove e brake motor. Swap parts, replace motor, go in car, apply e brake, disengage e brake, apply e brake, disengage e brake, apply e brake.
Then start the vehicle, voila.
