I have a Schwaben 6.5l fluid extractor I've used over the years for my older BMW's and recent VW GTI's. Thought I'd try it out on the FL5's first oil change. (I know I still have to jack up the car to get to the oil filter but thought draining out the majority of oil thru the dipstick tube would make less of a mess)

I got 5 liters out with the vacuum tube. I had to move it forward as it was inserted to clear a baffle(?) before it reached the bottom of the pan.

I then jacked up the car and removed the engine oil drain plug.... got a small amount of oil out (1/2 qt?) and pulled filter and dumped that oil into the drain pan. I added this oil into the fluid extractor for a final measurement (below) about 5.8 liters from the factory fill.

The owners manual states 5.7 quarts with oil filter which converts to 5.4 liters. More is better I guess ....

Mine reads full with less than the owner's manual number, about 5-1/3 quarts.
Our CRV hybrid takes more than the manual says around 4-2/3's quarts. So 10 quarts fills both.

I prefer doing it this way as well because that 0w20 will always shoot out way past my oil drain pan when I remove the drain bolt. Gets me every time lol.

For no mess oil change I use ValvoMax. not a drop of oil leaked out. I have it on all my cars.

yet changing the oil filter is always messy. I attempted the "bread bag over the filter" technique to no avail, still very messy.
