Hey everyone,

I recently scraped the center rear diffuser on my FL5 Type R and started looking into replacing it. The part number is 71551-T60-J00.

I’ve been trying to figure out something simple but I can’t seem to find a clear answer anywhere.

When you order this part from Honda, does it arrive already black and ready to install, or does it come unfinished/primer and need to be painted?

Most parts sites say “not painted,” but that wording is confusing. I’m not sure if that means it comes as black molded plastic like the factory piece, or if it actually needs paint before installing.

I’ve also seen some sites selling the same part pre-painted gloss black, which made me even more unsure about what the OEM replacement actually looks like.

So if anyone here has actually ordered and replaced this diffuser, I’d love to know:

  • What did the part look like when it arrived?
  • Did it match the factory finish on the car?
  • Did you install it as-is or did you have to paint it?

Also, if anyone did paint the replacement part, what paint did you use to match the factory look? Satin black? Gloss black? Something else?

This piece seems to sit pretty low, so I’m guessing a few people here have had to deal with replacing it.

Appreciate any firsthand experience!

It will arrive in the gloss black finish as it is on your car currently.

It seems to be commonly available for around $80, that's much less than I was thinking it would cost.

Until you get squeezed on the shipping. These parts of odd dimension (e.g., long) are very expensive to ship even if they're super lightweight which this part is.

Yup, this would be one of those parts where I would probably just go directly to the dealer and buy it for the $100 or so dollars.

Thankfully, I did not buy this, I just wanted to see how much shipping would be from a couple of the Honda parts dealer sites.

Oh that's great to know! I've been seeing some sellers online that sell these "painted gloss black" so I was not sure why they would need to note this if it comes glossy black.

And strangely enough, there is 0 images of this part online, and I mean anywhere!

Thanks!

They’re likely trying to be informative that the parts are painted gloss black, without knowing that they’re also adding to the confusion. They should say something more clarifying like OE (pre)painted gloss black or something like that.

I like this thread because it reminds me yet again that I'm not built to be a Porsche guy, I'm built to be a Honda guy. 👍

Is that 71551-T60-J00 part for the whole rear diffuser? The Honda parts websites show it as an assembly. Have a scratch in mine and didn’t realize it was that cheap.
