That sounds bogus to me. The same FL5 sold in WV is the same FL5 sold in CA. CA doesn't get a special FL5. Just buy the car if you want it before someone else does.

You definitely can buy an out of state car and bring it into California. The problem is a lot out of state dealers try to avoid dealing with out of state buyers unless they have the cash to pay upfront. You would also have to either fly out there and pick up the car or setup a transport company to pick it up for you and deliver it to you, the dealer won't do any of that. If you plan on financing, good luck trying to find an out of state dealer willing to work with you.

I have no idea why this is so negative lol. You can buy it in another state and bring it over no problem. The car is sold in cali as well and so there is no issue with emissions.

The dealer in Texas should already know you are from another state and so that shouldn’t be an issue either. Even if they don’t know, just tell them and if there is an issue with you being out of state, they will tell you (sometimes these dealerships like to only sell locally but that’s more so small town dealerships).

For registration, just bring your sales paperwork and your registration fee will depend on the cost of the vehicle and cali laws, no big deal.

lastly, for financing, shouldn’t be an issue. I just chase because their rate was better than Honda. If you have another bank you like, your sales person should be able to get a quote from them. Or if you have a credit union you are associated with, they can provide you with an auto loan as long as your credit is okay…which I am assuming it is.

Lastly, just drive to back from the dealership! It’s a fun drive and it’s a car! So use it and enjoy it .

Do you know if the car needs to be smogged for CA if it's brought brand new from out of state from a dealer?

I've bought many cars out of state and I'm in CA. You just have to pay CA sales tax on the side and you have to get the car smogged on your own. You will have to drive the car xxx+ miles for the computer to "break in" and register.

So smog is required regardless if new or used.

Also, assuming you bought the car new from a dealer, would you also be required to resmog every 2 years? Or is it exempt for 6 years being new?

I've researched some but just want to get some specifics cleared up. Thanks.

Yes new or used.
Yes I bought multiple times from new dealerships.
Smog every 5-6 years whatever the rule is.
