Too much. The amount is an eye watering sum for what feels like not that many mods. A few high dollar items gets you there quickly. With that, I'm done. Haven't purchased a mod since last summer. Car looks good and I'm happy with it.

*sigh. Probably not there yet. I love everything about it though. I've had other, high end vehicles and will choose this platform over others. Unpretentious, incredible performance, and a lot to work with in terms of platform and market offerings.

I've bought prl hvi intake, tsp downpipe, prl front pipe, prl intercooler, Lasfit bulbs, alcantera steering wheel, red accessories shift knob, door sills, type r trunk mat, acuity stage 2 shift kit, tint, and aftermarket floor mats, all before the 600 Mile breakin period and one baseline Dyno session afterwards (before install of all the parts besides the shifter upgrades). Still have a good ways to go on my list of mods.

About 27,800 dollars. Lots of military discounts were there as well so it really should have been more. I also install all my own parts so I don't pay for labor on that front.

What sites did you find that offer a mil discount?

I keep track of everything in an Excel sheet, which might not be the best idea—it just reminds me that I could have put this money into the S&P 500 or Bitcoin and possibly tripled it. But at the end of the day, I want to enjoy life while my body still allows it.

The total cost of my rolling modifications is $45,800, covering all maintenance and expensive track tires (excluding track day fees and insurance).

I did consider two other options: a used modded GT4 from a friend for $120K or a brand new M2. However, both would have come with higher insurance and maintenance costs, and their reliability was less certain compared to the Type R. Sometimes, I wonder if the GT4 might have been a more cost-effective choice in the long run, but I ultimately went with the Honda, prioritizing longevity, affordability, and practicality. With four doors and enough space for luggage, I can take it on long trips without worry. Plus, if I ever crash the Type R, it wouldn’t hurt nearly as much as wrecking a $120K used GT4.

I'm still estimating another $10K in upgrades for the Type R, including a fuel system upgrade, flex-fuel setup, tune, and an upgraded turbo. I also need to set aside an extra $10K for a forged engine rebuild—just in case the stock engine decides to call it quits.

Lmfao I decided to buy fl5 over more expensive cars because wrecking 50k vs 100k would hurt less. Didn't think I'd put this amount of money in mods. Probably should have just bought a more expensive car and less mods. Wrecking a 100k civic will probably hurt even more 😢

Honestly, if I had bought those other cars, I’d still end up spending at least another $50K on mods anyway. Comparing a fully built track prepped car across the BMW M2, GT4, and FL5, including power upgrades, brakes, aero, suspension, tuning, and weight reduction. The FL5 remains the most budget-friendly option.

At the end of the day, buying performance cars, modifying them, and tracking them are all emotional decisions and let’s be real, they’re not exactly financially responsible. But we’re all here because we embrace that recklessness. Whether you just want to mod your car or take it to the track, that’s entirely up to you. If financial responsibility was the goal, we’d all be driving used Priuses… but where’s the fun in that?

Funny enough, I have a friend who tracks his fully built brand new Type R, BMW M4, and 991 GT3 RS. He actually really enjoys the Type R on the track.
