Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some insight from people who have experience with insurance and aftermarket mods on their Type R.

I’ve put a decent amount of money into my car (wheels, performance parts, etc.), and it got me thinking—if the car were to get totaled, how does insurance usually handle those upgrades?

For those of you who’ve dealt with this:
- Did you have to declare your mods ahead of time? Proof of receipt.
- Did your insurance company increase your premium because of it, how much if so?
- Were you able to get full or partial value back on aftermarket parts in a claim?
- Any specific companies or policies you’d recommend (or avoid)?

I have up to 2,000$ per progressive, and that’s not nearly enough to cover my parts.

This would exclude track insurance obviously, since you set the amount for that.

Just trying to avoid getting burned if something ever happens. Appreciate any advice or personal experiences.

I never declared my modifications when I had my previous 2024 civic sport. When I got hit by a tractor trailer tire though, the shop managed to get my body kit but mentioned it was pretty hard to get the insurance company to agree. This was with GEICO.

Its been awhile since I had Progressive, but if I remember correctly, their comprehensive covers up to $1k for custom/modified parts and there is another section where you can declare an additional value of custom parts, but I think it caps at $5K or something, so itd be the $1k plus whatever else you add in the custom parts section.
