I have gone through a pretty wide variety of shifter knobs, rod lengths and overall shifting components. Thought I would share some pictures.

Current set up is the Hybrid Racing Competition Rod, Hybrid Racing Shifter, Hybrid Racing shifter cable bushings, Hybrid Racing HD detent springs, Spoon braided clutch line, Siri Moto Damper delete, and Clutch Delay Valve delete on the slave cylinder, along with Castrol SRF Fluid (no perceptible change from fluid). I do also run the Acuity gas pedal spacer in space B. This is purely personal preference. I have also adjusted the plunger rod on the clutch pedal.

I have every rod length offered by Hybrid Racing including the Competition Rod.
Longest- 170 mm
Middle- 140 mm
Shortest- 110 mm (this comes standard on the shifter)
Competition rod- 170 mm total height

Shift knob weights:
Maxim Stainless Knob- 474 g
Competition Rod Stainless- 607 g
130R Delrin Knob- 103 g
Acuity Esco T6 Knob- 185 g
eBay forged carbon knob- 114 g

I do like the overall height of the longest shift rod with the Maxim weighted stainless knob but there was noticeably more play in the gear selector in gear due to the increase height of the weighted knob and the leverage that creates. The competition rod is a good compromise on height and overall feel.

A man on a mission to dial it down. I really like your console. Is that a hydrodip?

I agree with you on the longest rod, but I prefer the lighter shift knob on top.

Its an actual forged carbon fiber overlay piece. I got it through Kplayground. He does alot of other interior and exterior carbon stuff along with cool pull door handles if you wanted to feel all GT3 RS

How do you feel about the CMC damper and CDV delete?

I love it. More feel in the clutch pedal and clutch engagement just feels much more precise. A little more vibration in the clutch pedal during higher rpm shifts but nothing horrible. I bought a manual car so I don't mind feeling the system working.

I def recommend both, overall a cheap modification. I bought a new OEM slave to do the CDV delete since they were relatively cheap and I wanted a spare.

I think it's also worth getting a braided clutch line while you have the slave off and need to bleed it anyways.

I did the braided clutch line along with all the brake lines at the same time.

Have you had any experience, or know anyone who has changed the oem shifter cables for the hybrid stainless steel cables? I can’t seem to find anyone’s experience with it. I know that online they only advertise them as FK8 still

Unfortunately I don't have any experience or know anyone with experience on changing the full cable system from OEM. Certainly would be interested if others have. Certainly could see doing that down the road as needed.

The Competition Rod, Maxim, and Acuity ESCO were all too fat/thick for for my stubby hands. I had a Spoon knob, but it was too skinny. I feel like Goldilocks. 👧 After I sold most of them, I cycle between Skunk2, Circuit Hero Type B, and HawkDown (BattleCraft copy).

Shift Knobs are the funnest thing to buy and try out on a car. Such a small thing can make all the difference.

I have always wanted the Circuit Hero B. I always had an eye on the Likewise stuff also.

I like the Circuit Hero Type B. Generally I don't like ball-shaped knobs, but the Type B's tapered neck makes it comfortable. The Circuit Hero looks taller, but it is countersunk 15mm. The others are not.

Just received an email back from Hybrid Racing that the FK8 shifter cables are not compatible with the FL5 and that they will release them at some point

I am also in SoCal, after burning my hand once (years ago '07 Si FA5), I will never again use metal knobs.

I also prefer heavier shift knobs.

For the FA5 I used the 400g Razo RA-68A Palm Grip (went through two of them in the 18 years I drove the FA5) and loved it.

Yet, for whatever reason, it just did not feel right in the FL5. seemed as if it did not retain the orientation through the different gears, esp 5th and 6th, did not feel natural.

Might be due to the Hybrid Racing short throw, which probably have a different shifting "path"? yet I had a Hybrid Racing short throw on the Si. go figure. (I cannot comment on the OEM shifter, since I installed the HR short throw first weekend I had the car...)

Thanks to Amazon return policy, I've tried over half a dozen different knobs.

I am now using the Mishimoto Walnut.

It took me a short while to get used to it (I almost returned it, swapped it with another one, but then gave it another chance)

It initially felt huge in my hands. but I absolutely love it now. better than the Razo. since it is round ball shape, I can place my hand any which way.

Big fan of Billetworkz if you are looking for weighted shift knobs, they have a lot of different shapes and sizes with different weights and you can just about customize them to an extent. Its a little on the pricier side, but I really love their Fusion shift knob.

I looked at the Fusion, but was concerned about the metal disk on top, and indeed thrice the price of the Mishimoto (which I got as "used like new" from Amazon)
