Am I reading the unit wrong (more used to mpg) or has fuel consumption got worse?

That's a bit of a backwards step!

Final Drive is shorter than the FK8 it seems if this information is solid. Reading reviews of the FK8 and the mention of 3K RPM at 80mph wasn't my favorite. This may lower it a little bit.

sucks that they are removing start-stop. the pre-production one for media test drive still has the button.. (might be a place holder I guess)

Longer, lower, wider. A recipe for success. (This thing is nearly 6" wider than my S2000. It's going to look like a monster in the garage.)

Wait NEW DI and VVTI ??!?!?! That would be HUGE for efficiency and power curve.

If those 2 pieces are new/upgraded that would be measurable gains no?

Sorry, I've been extremely anxious to see if Honda has manufactured any new gear ratios. I opened this thread for the first time in a few days hoping that the technical specifications had been posted. I read the words "final drive" and completely spazzed out with excitement lol.

The ratios posted are the same as the FK2. Same 1-6 gears as FK8, but taller, 3.842 final drive that Honda reused from the USDM 2010-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD 6MT.

I'm a bit skeptical about the ratios posted. I'm surprised that Honda went from the 4.11 final drive down to the 3.842 despite FL5 having a higher curb weight. The only thing that would make sense is if the overall tire diameter of FL5 is smaller then the FK8.

In case you're not familiar with the project I did with these trans, here's a link my project thread.

There is nobody, literally nobody that you will ever be able to find that has spent more time reverse engineering these transmissions with exception to someone that has or was employed by Honda that was on the engineering team that designed these transmissions.

Let me know if you've got any questions.

I agree with you. I'm also skeptical but I would welcome the change. It seems that Honda has put effort into making the car more comfortable and friendly on a day-to-day basis. Does that make sense or do you think that is a reach? In the sense of 80mph highway travel.

Sounds about right. Here in the states 2002 Civic Si EP3 came with weak K20A3 engine. Everyone wondered why Honda didn't offer it with a better engine.

It wasn't until 2013 on the 9g Civic Si where Honda gave us a K24. That's all part of their deliberate marketing plan so they can capitalize off of each, minimal, incremental upgrade.

Only way to get what we want is to Frankenstein a vehicle lol.

Interesting. So the FL5 tire diameter actually is slightly smaller than FK8.

FK8 tire diameter
245/30/20 = 25.7874"

FL5 tire diameter
265/30/19 = 25.2598"

25.2598/25.7874 = 0.9795403956971
1-0.9795403956971=0.0204596043028
So, 2.046% smaller

If there's 20 N*m (14.751 ft*lbf) more torque from 2600-4500rpm that would be a 5% increase.

5% increase in torque, 2% decrease in tire diameter balances out the 7% taller final drive ratio.

(4.111/3.842)−1 = 0.0700156168662

Conclusion, 3.842 final drive is plausible.
