So yesterday morning i went to start my car up and it shut off right away and the security light was flashing a few times
started it back up no problem continued driving.

Later in the day i was sitting in my car for a while having a conversation and maybe after 20 minutes of sitting with the car running, it just completely turned off like if i hit the start/stop button.

Has anyone experienced something similar to this?
the car has been running perfectly fine , no rough idle or loss of power, completely perfect besides this.

It does shut off if it sits around 20 minutes.

Yeah you should probably take it to the dealer so they can tell you the same thing I just told you 👍🏽
It seems like a safety thing but I had been driving for a while and then was sitting in it letting it idle and after some time I’d just randomly turned off, it hadn’t done that to me before and I had let it idle for much longer before that once

it seems intermittent so I doubt the dealer will have any insight since it doesn’t seem to be soemthing that could be replicated

I’m just telling you it’s happened to me in my FL5. Figured I’d throw that in there to make you feel better that nothing was wrong lol. Quick Google search will show you the same thing.

No car I’ve owned before has done this, so this would be new and surprising to me too, had @abracadaniel_ not posted.

The following conditions have to be met for the car to completely turn off after ~20 mins:
- A door has been opened, such as when leaving the vehicle.
- The driver’s seatbelt is not fastened.
- The vehicle is completely stopped. (Manual trans vehicles)

Makes sense. This prevents people from accidentally (or intentionally?) leaving their car idle for hours. I know a gal who did this with 2 different vehicles ; Left her car running and went inside her workplace. Came back out hours later…and noticed she couldn’t find her keys and also noticed engine noise as she approached her car. 🤣🤣🤣 She’s really a funny and great person. The problem was she just had a lot of other things on her mind, which can happen to the best of us. Thanks Honda.

The car will shut off if left idle for around 20 minutes or so. It happened to me twice at hot events where my wife and I were cooling off. It's normal.

As far as turning off immediately after starting it, is it possible you let off the clutch a skosh too soon? I've done that a couple times.

Isn't this a safety feature they added so people don't leave them idle in their garages.

Yeah, that part is normal.

The thing about the op’s car shutting off right after starting, indeed, sounds like he stalled it, as @Modular Cal said…though the op mentions a security light flashing? Not sure what that’s about, unless this is what happens when stalling.

@TypeRD it does flash when you do. I vividly remember as both times it happened was when I was around a LOT of people watching me leave. I'm sure there is video of me doing that somewhere lol....

Ah OK. THAT’s how you know! Appreciate your honesty. It’s helpful for the discussion. @Modular Cal

So far I have managed not to stall mine, but I’m sure I will at some point. I’ve been driving manual for over 20 years, but every now and then I goof. It happens. NBD

Anyway, sounds like we’ve sleuthed out the op’s questions

Okay so what I’m seeing is that it’s normal and not worth taking it to the dealer and I’m just going crazy lol
Thanks guys
