I live in the western suburbs of Chicago (Saint Charles, IL). I just got my oil change at the Honda dealer and had them check my break pads. The drivers side rear pad has 2 mm left and the passenger side rear pad has 4 mm left. He recommended changing them and resurfacing the rotor.

Two questions. Should I worry about possible seizing of the caliper resulting in the discrepancy? He (tech) told me, it may account for the difference in both sides. Or is this kind of discrepancy somewhat normal? There are no abnormal sounds and the car stops fine.

Other question is, what’s the typical cost to obtain OEM brake pads (rear), install the pads, and resurface the rear rotor? They quoted me 750 dollars. Was wondering if anyone know a reputable shop otherwise; or is this pretty typical for cost. Thanks and any help would be appreciated!

Buy the OEM 2020-2021 Type R brake pads. Much cheaper and effectively the same as FL5 pads for street use. Part number 43022-TGH-A11 (60 USD for the set )

Don't bother resurfacing the rear rotors. If they are below minimum thickness, just buy a pair from rock auto or your reputable local mechanic. Here is an example:

Rear brake pad and rotor change is the same sequence as every 2016+ Honda Civic. So any reputable shop can do it. Just make sure you tell them to put the rear brakes in service mode. Any good mechanic should know what it means.

In regards to uneven wear, the rear brakes have one piston and sliding/floating calliper. I wouldn't worry about it.

Shop should be able to do this for 250-300? And if I wanted to upgrade brake pads for daily spirited driving? Any suggestions? I guess I can look through the forum…I think that topic has been discussed to death ha. But I really appreciate the reply!!!!

OEM is fine for all non track use, even the ones I linked.

So 100 dollar difference between fk8 versus FL5 rear pads lol. Is the difference between the pads worth just going with the cheaper option? I hate to think I’m putting something worse on the car than OEM. Lol.

dream automotive is probably just charging more. I am pretty sure the pads are the same. They are made by ATE

I do think there may be a slight difference in the composition, but it is more likely due to supply chain constraints and emissions in the pad dust. Tons of guys use the FK8 rear pads on the track too. For the price, it's unmatched.
