How are you doing, Type R friends?

Do you usually use your Type Rs for long road trips? What are your opinions on the car as a mile-guzzler?

I had an Accord 2.0T, and the difference I see, at least in fuel consumption, is very small. It would be good to hear about your experiences.

I’ve taken my FL5 on quite a few road trips to cottage country the past two summers. These have been roughly 200-300km or more in length one-way, and the car fares very well for what I need it for.

I’ve typically averaged about 7.0-8.0 L/100 km on those drives. It’s a nice dual personality plus side to the car as it serves its utility as a Civic Hatchback for me on these trips out.

I used to own a 2022 Civic Hatchback ST and bought a lumbar support pillow as my lower back would feel a bit sore after hours-long drives. Somewhat ironically, I haven’t had that issue in the Type R with its bolstered seats.

I have only taken mine on two 1100mi round trip vacations/road trips and for a car that is positioned as being a "track focused" car its truly remarkable how road trip ready it was out of the box. I averaged 30mpg for the trip (largely freeway miles) with the AC on in the summer, loaded with luggage and two dogs.

I am not sure I will take it on many more road trips but thats only because our other car is a little more practical and I would rather put miles on that. But those two road trips were easily the most fun road trips I've driven.

Enjoy your trip!

I have been all over the US with mine- probably 15k of my mileage is road trips. It's a phenomenally good road trip car. It is always comfortable, the passing power is extremely nice to have, and the adaptive cruise and lane keep work wonders as fatigue sets in.

The only real concern is rock chips on the front of the car.

Realistically you're getting 270-300 miles per tank max- which is honestly fine; that's over 4 hours of driving, by then it's restroom/lunch/break time anyway.

Yep. My report is the same as those above.
A WAY better road trip car than it should be. AVG 7.5-8L/100klm (you'll have to convert to Freedom units)

Dude, @juanfiandro ,
That's the whole reason I bought my FL5. Yup, I'm that guy.
Got tired of road tripping in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sport 6MT with a ragtop roof and sitting on 33" knobby tires. Approximately 87+ sustained (allegedly) interior decibels at any speed over 65 MPH.
Originally, in October / November of 2024, I was gonna buy a 2025 Civic Sport Hatch 6MT for road trips... but Honda discontinued the 6MT for 2025. The douche satchels. Of course they did.
No more manual Civics after 2024.
Therefore, I was forced to buy a Type R. Twist my arm.
What else was I supposed to do?

Matter fact, I just drove from San Antonio to Rockport today to come down and see some family for the weekend.
It's about a 3 and a half hour drive one way from my side of town. Got about 28 and change MPG today, according to thuh cumpootur.

The FL5 only has about 76+ sustained (allegedly) interior decibels at highway speeds.

This is all "allegedly" because I don't have a deciblometer yet. Anyone here got any suggestions on a mid-high end deciblometer out there? ... Or at least a very reliable one? I would like to record before / during / after @Sound Deadening Project road decible and / or sound pressure level readings.
I'm into the idea of recording the decibel / SPL differences. Don't know if anyone here has done that yet.

I still use earplugs, but in the Civic FL5, the drive is much quieter than in the Wrangler.
The grass is always greener, ammiright?

Cheers.

Toronto to Tail of the Dragon twice in my FK8, zero issues with comfort. Nothing long distance yet with the FL5 but hope to do that trip again with it. Also want to make it out to Eastern Canada, and drive along the Atlantic Ocean coast

Has anyone done a long road trip like 700+ miles with 4 passengers and luggage? Curious to know, because I read somewhere that is not good for the type R suspension. I am not sure what are the ill-effects, but if anyone care to explain?
Asking this since I have a trip planned from London to Switzerland in a few weeks, with 4 passengers (approx 170 lb each) and luggage. Any advices and thoughts will be appreciated!

For me, it is about the same as most cars I drive on a regular basis (around 27-30mpg), as long as I am not in boost the majority of the time under good conditions on freeway. We are talking about going somewhere about 500 miles away, which is a couple tanks worth.

The only time I feel the small gas tank, is when I go somewhere about 60 miles away. The next day I drive it, I would be like "didn't I just put gas in not long ago?"

im stock. i also weigh 200lbs.
it was 60/40 mix of freeway and local
even went the whole way through ortega highway twice
i'm not sure what to tell you, i was driving normal.
my normal is getting up to speed quickly, and then crusing around speed limit.
i pay attention to throttle position not to save gas but to see how much
modulation is possible with my foot. It was actually at 33.5 at 118 miles left on the tank
but some spirited driving brought it down to 31, hahaha.
