ok this has been driving me crazy, looks like it's a common problem. I've only had the car like 9 months, and the thing just bunches up in the door jam every time i go to get out. I can tug on the thing like 3 or 4 times and it will eventually limp noodle up out of the way. But seems like maybe there were a batch of faulty retractors.

I had my retractor changed. Everything is good now. if it is bad, that part is warrantied under a different section and it is a prolonged warranty.
