if OP had his key in a faraday pouch, how do they steal our type R's usually? They can hack in by going thru the obd port?

If the OP had a Faraday pouch or cage, the result would've been the same. A relay attack ("boosting the signal") allows them to open the door as if they had a key fob in their possession and not force entry into the vehicle. Since they broke the window, they likely couldn't perform a relay attack and had to force entry into the vehicle. They likely performed the following:

1. Smash the window
2. Reach in, unlock door
3. Gain access to the car
4. Plug programmer into OBD port
5. Program new key
6. Drive off normally

The above can happen in 2-5 minutes. This generally fits since OP mentioned "a pile of glass" was left behind, car was calmly backed out (they had full ignition control), late night in townhouse community, no flatbed truck seen.

Doesn't the car need to be on for the obd port to work?

The OBD-II port receives power directly from the 12V battery, so it remains active even with the ignition off. The CAN bus architecture keeps certain modules awake and communicating without the engine running. Key programmers are designed to wake sleeping modules and communicate with the immobilizer directly, bypassing the need for the ignition to be on.

The only way to block the OBD port electronically on Hondas is an IGLA+ additional OBD block. The OBD port does not run on the CAN bus on Hondas so the regular Igla won't get it.

It depends on your installer. Some installers cut the OBD data lines and use open relays, that essentially does the same thing.

unfortunately they are designed to always be on, no matter if the car is on or off.
Yep…which explains the constant parasitic battery drain.

Type R theft is very common in Toronto, and the thieves typically leave the car not too far from where they stole it, to let it cool down for a few days in case there’s an onboard tracker.

Post in your local car spotting group, someone may have seen it parked up. This is how I and a couple other friends found a stolen FK8 two summers ago after we received a tip that it was parked in a certain neighborhood.

Just yesterday another FK8 was stolen locally, hoping that it gets spotted.

I don’t leave mine up to chance so I got IGLA anti-theft installed on my FK8, then transferred it over to the FL5. Also installed on my family hauler Lexus since that’s a targeted vehicle as well.

How much is the IGLA?

Around $1300, OBD block is another $150, I put telecompass (GPS) on mine and the total was $2300.
