Many of you out there are interested in tuning your cars, but not all of these cars will see track duty, which is perfectly fine! There's nothing wrong with being a street warrior!!! Street tunes tend to be very punchy and fun, and often put out some impressively solid horsepower and torque numbers. I had the Phearable Stage 2 tune on my FK8, and that car absolutely RIPPED with that tune! I think OTS tunes are phenomenal, and a great value, and the available OTS tunes from TSP and Phearable are created by very reputable tuners. Getting a custom tune on a dyno is great too, and really dials the car in to your specific needs/wants/location/environment etc. A tune that works great in Dallas probably wouldn't work as well if you drove the car to Denver.
I've been pestering @Jester04 for months to create a tune specifically for tracking, since he decided to take the plunge and start to offer his tuning services professionally. I honestly don't know how this guy has time between his medical studies, research on his own car, community involvement, and NOW tuning services!
So here it is. I spent a few hours today tuning my car with Jester. This required 4 revisions and several datalogs. He created a track specific tune that caters to my driving style, my hatred for taking cool down laps, and my reliability-first mentality. Some of you are probably thinking that my wish list is a bit crazy. I demand a lot from the car, and want it to hold up at the same time.
Upload this tune when you get to the track, then flash back to stock or whatever street map you want to use afterwards.
Key points:
This tune falls in the 350-370hp range (Power varies with bolt ons)
It is specifically focused on reliability for track performance.
The ignition timing is optimized through the rev range.
The AFR's are richer to keep cylinder temps down.
The torque curve is optimized for engine longevity and traction through corners.
Cooling fans activate sooner to mitigate ECT's.
There was ZERO knock detected on any of my test runs, and believe me...I wasn't being nice to the car.
The brass tacks:
I went out on these test drives not really knowing what to expect. His first revision didn't feel like much of anything changed (I think he was pulling my leg). The second revision knocked my socks completely off. The torque steer was enormous, the car pulled so hard that I couldn't move in my seat, and instead resorted to laughing like a mad man (I think he was still messing with me). Revision 3 calmed the torque steer down and opened up more top end power. The 4th and final revision was just pure magic. The car was alive and well, and it was no longer a case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It was tame when I wanted it, and an absolute bullet when I was ready to get down to business. The torque presents itself very progressively and comes on at the perfect RPM to keep you from blowing the tires off at lower revs which is great for low speed corners (and your rods). I can't wait to put this tune to the test at VIR in a few weeks, at which time final revisions, if needed, will be made. I had a great experience tuning with Jester, and would recommend him highly! Cheers!
...and yes....I'll make a video.
