Windshield protection film does exist, and I was sorely tempted to do so as I needed my clear windshield tint redone and the shop I used offers it. However, I was not sold on the ROI, as I was quoted around $800 for installation, and the life expectancy of the film is two-to-four years.

For a weekend-only Type R that's constantly garaged, it's fine. For a daily-driven base model Civic, I'll take my chances.
$800? That's a bit steep. I had my windshield PPF'd for $399. Just like OP, as someone who has had their windshield replaced on a previous vehicle and the quality was spotty, I think its well worth it to keep the OEM windshield protected.

I need to find another shop...🤦‍♂️

It's all relative. If I had an FL5 that was a weekend toy, I'm all for it (not to say that there aren't daily-driven Type Rs). However, as a base model Civic owner, I'm having a hard time on ROI.

Well, currently my FL5 is my daily and only car. Hence I make sure it's in top shape as much as I can, and I've only done tame mods so far. I'd love to look into the PPF option, though. If @ICantDriveStick can get that done for $400 bucks in CA out of all places, it shouldn't be too bad here in TX either. I guess my only question would be how effective the PPF would actually be?

Rate my local dealership windshield repair 👎

Today is honestly the 1st time I'm detailing the interior on the FL5, and found a large scratch on the dashboard. I don't drive the car often so the interior never needed detailing before. . The only tools near that part of the dashboard would be the tools for windshield repair. Going back and looking at the picture the day the windshield got replaced, you can see a big scratch on the dashboard. It's in front of the cluster hump so I can't see it from the driver's seat. The windshield got replaced in July 2025 by a local Honda dealership. I already know they will say why am I noticing it now. I have pictures or show and hope they own up to it. This is the reason why I HATE other people working on my car.

Windshields are one of those items that it's almost guaranteed that it will never be the same as OEM. I've grown to just expect stuff like this- but I think a missing piece on an install is a dealbreaker. As are visible gouges in the dash.

Otherwise if there's no visible damage to interior, no noise, and all electronics function the same, then overall it's not worth re-engaging for some sloppy silicone application.

I had all my cars done thru Safelite over the past 20 yrs and with no problems. One can't tell if it's OEM from the factory or been replace. I lean my lesson from past windshield replacement from dealers and shops that say we give you a wax job.
