What's worse is that I bought 6 of the inferior HO1's.... Knowing I had planned to blow through these "purposefully."
Why do you call them inferior? I feel like I'm out of the loop here because I bought a ton of A02s a few months back and never cared to look for a resupply.

Internally they've changed, less pleat count, new internal end caps. There's a video on YT. This is almost 3yr old info. I guess the storefront infill took a while.

This is such a poor copy that the barcode has the wrong part number in it.

That barcode brings up 15400-PLM-A02, not 15400-RTA-003.
I will stick to get the A02 on AutoZone or Oriely’s will not trust any online store for Honda parts anymore if is something other than maintenance item then I do the drive towards Waco.
Me too. The staff at my local Honda took umbrage with me questioning the part number. I said that part# is wrong and they borderline yelled at me. Level heads prevailed and they explained that Honda has been changing the sourcing at least twice in the last 6 months. Each change brought a parts number change. They did not go into detail but alluded to an apparent cost containment strategy.
They also acknowledged that there are lots of the old part numbers floating around BUT they did not carry them.
I asked them about counterfeit parts being sold on Amazon and they were clueless.
My local dealership is crap from the sales department all the way to the mechanics! I don’t step foot in that place and every chance I have I will bashed them.
Bought a few filters at the dealer yesterday and they are the H01s

This is a new one? I’m not aware of this contraption! Where did you get it?

Uh, no.

Counterfeits are all over scAmazon and eBay and it's very alarming to have one on your car.

Some of the fakes have non-functional bypasses and filter media that is a compete joke.
I made no reference to counterfeits. I suggested OP identify the origin.

I always buy oil filters from a reputable Honda dealer in bulk. There are 30 filters per sealed box from Honda. When I run low on the filters, I order another box of 30 for whatever the new supplier and part number happens to be at the time.

Here are PICs of two 15400-PLM-A01 oil filters that I still have left that were manufactured by Filtech:

Stock was running low at the time, so I ordered a box of the replacement 15400-PLM-A02 oil filters that were manufactured by Honeywell/Fram:

I still have 20 of those filters left so I won’t be ordering another box of 30 under the new part number anytime soon:

There have been many thoughts/comments/videos out there about what oil filter is best to use. Instead of getting sucked into that whirlwind and getting a headache, I believe the best oil filter to use is the one Honda recommends with one caveat. Ignore the maintenance minder and change your oil and filter every 3-5K miles.

Buddy, this whole thread is talking about counterfeits. Do you know what day it is? Who the president is? I think you might be having a stroke.

Nothing alarming. We'd have to know where ea version 003 came from. There's mahle tennex and filtech suppliers for Hondas oem filters. The crush washer in the top, clearly shows signs of a stuff and reseal, I wouldn't beat myself up about it.
You're saying that in reference to pictures of a clearly counterfeit filter my guy. Maybe keep that advice to yourself.

Don’t argue over nothing, but his true main argument is that online Amazon, eBay, Honda stores, and now apparently dealers are phasing out filters and selling counterfeits as legitimate parts. If it hasn’t happened to you yet does not mean it could not happen at some point. It’s like a colonoscopy: probably you don’t have one yet, but at one point you will have one regardless of what you think.

I read OPs post and I shared my thoughts on that. I adressed the point he made about the crush washer. Before assuming he had a counterfeit, I suggested he identified the source, you following? good. It could have been a simple case of two separate suppliers given the packaging. If it's a genuine part, having a resealed filter with a crush washer....you ready? Nothing alarming.

No they aren't.

The US-made filters were being OEM'd for Honda by Fram.

Fram went through Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Honda started looking elsewhere in their already existing supply chain to make up for the missing Fram supply in the US.

The standard filter at US dealers is now one made by Mahle in China.

At no point did dealers phase out old filters and start selling counterfeits. That's a straight-up lie.

Which Honda parts store online? Most popular is College Hills Honda, half this forum orders from them. I hope it wasn’t them.
Sorry I got it on hondapartsnow, I never have Issues with other parts with them before I really don’t know what happened. Probably it was a bad batch or something but will not buy again from them.

I read your post wrong, as sparkle did to mine. No blood, no foul.
