I couldn’t decide between upcoming CTR and GRC. So I’m getting both. Because YOLO. So why not.
HA. I am in the same boat, I had a 2020, loved it, but sold it. I regretted that sale, so I am first in line now with a deposit for an 11th gen.

Now the GR came out and I really like everything about it, so I put a deposit down on that, I only would want the Circuit to be honest, I would settle for a core with all of the packages.

So time will tell what comes out first, but I am planning on having both and seeing what is better and deciding from there.

I will make it work, lol

In Reply to Post #187: It seems I am in luck, although I live in Germany, I found a dealer who was willing to let me preorder a 2023 Type R and the contract that is signed by both parties states that I will pay "only" MSRP".

Secured a deposit at a local dealer here in MN for their first new type r coming in. MSRP, only 2k in accessories we agreed upon, ppf, tint, mats, shit I will actually buy anyways.

I'm beyond excited.

Sold my 2020 a little bit ago and regret it for sure.
Where because im being told none will take money.

I wish US had a law that prohibited dealer markups on cars, like some other countries.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for capitalism and free market. I just wish it didn’t apply to new cars lol
Thats the thing though, just because you are for capitalism and the free market, that doesn't mean the end of consumer protection. The two are not mutually exclusive. Free markets exist in a framework which prevents market coercions.

I really hate how in the US as soon as you mention something that is clearly logical and benefits consumers you have to preface with, 'I'm for capitalism but...' otherwise you will be tagged as a radical communist or something crazy, its really stupid because it prevents discussions like ADMs from happening at the legal level. Its very stupid. Free market does not mean literally a complete hands off approach to everything.

Canada has a law that legally prevents ADMs from my understanding but dealerships skirt around it by adding 'dealership installed items'. Would be interesting to know how other similar free market countries like UK/Germany and Japan works regarding dealerships.

It’s kind of just about the dealers making independent decisions about how they want to operate - which is fine as long is there is no collusion across the dealers. I expect more broadly there will be $15-25k markups as the norm. All the msrp dealers seem to have looong waiting lists.

If they have that much markup that will put them $55-65K, so many other cars I'd choose over the R at that price.

If I can't get MRSP, I won't buy.

Heck, at this point I may not anyway. I am tired of waiting and at this rate it maybe the end of the year before the car is available.

I hear you but the hype, performance and all the changes they made are going to make this thing epic. I would not be surprised if you saw them selling for close to $60k similar to the 2021 LE’s.

Right now, lots of used 2017’s with 20+k miles are going for over original msrp.

I bought my 2020 for MSRP, hopefully there are still some dealers out there that aren't jerks and sell the cars at the actual price.

Yes, there are you just need to find them and get there quick. The more calls i made the more it was becoming clear that these are being sold out before its even released. One msrp in chicago area had 21 in lineand tgey only get 8. Same here at a place in Minneapolis. Its nuts.

Nothing interesting right now
Checked with my dealer recently, still at the front of the line, but they are still not taking deposits yet.

I know this is the Type R forum, but has anyone been following the GR Corolla reveal? I saw it last night and put a deposit down at my local dealer this morning. Going to have a tough time choosing between a Type R and this.
Is is a wild car for sure. I think the Corolla GR is going to be more like the Focus RS. Kind of a wilily ride, but really more geared towards casual fun than being serious. If that is what you are looking for, it will definitely deliver.

The reason I am not going that route is I want the longer wheelbase for highway stability and something that is a little more track focused. I had a Fiesta ST for a while, and while it was a ton of fun, it was really tiring. Every trip to get groceries or to work just made you feel anxious behind the wheel. It was just always on, very darty and touchy. For road trips it would leave me completely exhausted after a day of driving. The FiST, FoST, and RS were all kind of like that in retrospect, sort of nervous and touchy. Just go go go all the time.

I also don't think the Corolla GR is going to be able to keep up around a track. It will push wide on tight corners and generally just be a handful. It speaks magnitudes that Honda is out setting lap records before their launch while Toyota already did a full reveal by doing donuts on a stage.

Whatever floats your boat, it is great to see Toyota throwing themselves into performance again.

On my radar over at Toyota, perhaps even more than this one is the upcoming GR Supra with the manual transmission. It might be a bit too much of a grand-touring car though. I also kind of expect that they will throw additional performance into it and jack the price way up.

I am pretty committed to getting a Type-R at this point anyway, so probably just stay the course.

Any dealers in the U.S taking a waitlist at MSRP? No luck on the 10+ I've reached out to.

I am #2 for Corolla GR though.

Thanks.

There are but they have 2-3x the waitlist over expected inventory unless you find the unicorn out in the middle of nowhere.

I am all most over waiting to hear some info and may just pull the the trigger on something already on the market.

Going to test drive a Supra and TLX-S to see how I feel about them.

What is the expected inventory anyways?
Based on prior years 4k for the US and 8k total. Im basing the dealer level on what they told me they have had in the past but am getting rumblings that number may be lighter as well - ie if a dealer received 4 in a year in the past they are saying they will get 2-4 of the 2023.
