$5k is the norm for dealers interested in selling a car, the dealers at $10k over and higher haven’t read the room.

For real.

I've had the same dealer from Miami call me 6 times trying to sell me their 10K over R. I have tried to be nice but I am not sure how else to tell them I am not interested in a car with that kind of markup.

The last time I emailed the guy the offer I got from my local Honda dealer for 5K over. He was like oh, we can not do that.

Jerry Damson Honda sales guy called me yesterday (I inquired 3-4 months ago) to let me know they have a BB Type R coming in. I told him right off the rip I would not pay more than 1K over and no accessoires.

He said let me see what I can do. Gave him all my info and trade details. He did come back with 1K over MSRP, but they under evaluated my trade by $10,500. I asked if he wanted me to send me recent offers from CarMax, Vroom and my local Honda dealer, he said they would not go any higher.

I was a straight dick and said look man, I told you within 30 seconds of answering my phone what I was looking for to not waste my time or yours. Why the fuck did you call me multiple times and have me gather all this info just to try and screw me around.

Then he started back peddling and saying well what were you trying to get your payments to. I said I am not a fucking idiot and do not shop for cars based on payments. Thank you for wasting my fucking time, have a great day.

I guess the cars are sitting as I've have dealers from all over the country calling me that I reached out to earlier in the year about getting an R.
I can't believe that's still a sales tactic that works... "well what do you want to be for a payment".....as if no one has access to whatever tools and calculators to determine what they should be paying for a car......its brutal

@CivicR38 I am not at all surprised this sales tactic still works. It has been proven time and again that there’s a large swathe of Americans who don’t understand finances, budgeting, etc. etc. They’re making it mandatory to learn in high school now, which is great. I recall reading that the average American has ~$10k or more in revolving credit card debt. I’m sure there are some legitimate reasons for that and some completely irresponsible or uneducated reasons. These crooked car salesmen will prey on the irresponsible and uneducated.

Not here in SoCal, some dealers are firm at $15k-20k.. Ridiculous.

-Josh
Goudy Honda sold 2 blue ones at 5500 and 5 over this month, freeway sold a blue at 4500 over, Lancaster sold a blue at 6500 and white at 7500 over in July, rock Honda sold a white at 6500 over last week.
Dealers may have stupid price tags in SoCal but they’ve been moving at way less than 15-20k for the last 2 months

The car I bought had a $25k markup. They have a black one in stock now but firm on $10k on that one, (I wanted black over blue).

But at msrp it’s unreal? Or there some chance?

It's happened, but EXTRMELY rare and you've had to be on the waitlist for nearly a year.

Someone posted today they they got 3K over so prices are def cooling off.

9K ADM in this market is steep. People are walking out 5K total.
