First post here!

New CTR owner (7/3/23).

Performed what I thought was a thorough inspection during purchase. But about a week ago I was doing some minor detailing with a micro fiber and notice some gritty surface feel. It actually was enough to grab the microfiber cloth threads a bit. The visible marks are all raised upwards, not pitted. Tried to get the best pic possible.

This is located directly dead center windshield on the roof about an inch from the window seal.

Has anyone else seen this? Does Honda have a paint warranty?

I haven't contacted honda yet, but plan to stop in a dealer this Friday. Just wanna get my ducks in row prior to discussing with dealer. Ps- different dealer than purchased from, that dealer is over 2hrs away.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or feedback.

It’s part of the adhesive for the protection during shipping. Some dealers don’t get it all off. It’s easy to lightly polish off with a soft foam finishing pad, or you can always just take it back to the dealer since they did a poor job of removing it.

It would have been all over the roof and hood, along the outer perimeter. So it looks like they got a lot of it off, but not all of it.
I saw that in a prior post, I'll give it a try but it has a very hard metallic feel to it, not like any adhesive I've encountered. I will follow back and apologize for duplicate threading if that's what it is 😆. Thanks

That doesn't look like the result of a poor PDI job. That looks like an imperfection in the paint or at worst, damage. Let us know how you make out on this.

A few weeks after taking delivery of my FL5 from out of state I noticed a few tiny black specks in/under the clear coat on the one a-pillar and took it into my local dealer to have them take a look at. Determined it was definitely some sort of factory defect and Honda corporate took care of getting it resprayed. Wasn't real happy to have to get a section of my car resprayed, but they said they stand by their work for the life of the car and it looks perfect, so I'm happy with how things went. Just make sure they respray the entire panel if it comes to that as it's impossible to blend in a way that you won't notice.

Thanks, I feel the same. And had the same thoughts about a respray solution. But what other option are reasonably available?!

Will circle back upon diagnosis & resolution.

Honda is gonna love me, my 2018 civic was bought back under lemon law after 1.5 yrs of ownership.

In my case I could have lived with it as each speck was about the size of a pen tip, so barely noticeable. In your case though that looks pretty noticeable. Good luck!

Noticed something similar on mine (also a 24) 3 weeks ago. But that's crazy, you have a whole cluster of these weird raised spots. Is there any redness you can see in them? I assumed they were tiny rock chips that built up oxidation on them and that's why they're raised and can catch the fibers of a cloth.

@pigfacedalarm said they could be bits of the shipping adhesive which could be it because both of our spots are on the roof. I'd much prefer if it was that lol

Did it look like this?

Mine had that all over the rear door and quarter panel. I only noticed it when my face was up close doing my first wash. I texted the pics to the dealer and they basically told me to go pound sand, saying it must have been something something I did after taking receipt.

Knowing that dealing with the aholes would be a pain in the dick, I hit it with a clay bar. Which thankfully worked.

Mine was only like 4 or 5 dots like that. I first took it to a detailer who tried to polish them out, which didn't work. He didn't want to do anything more aggressive before I talked to the dealer. I forget it if was him or the dealer who suspected that it was some splatter from the windshield adhesive that got into the clear coat.

I have a bunch of stuff going on with mine I'm starting to notice after cleaning her real good and ceramic coating her.

I think I have a combo of bad paint gun and adhesive stuck still.

First of all, shiny reflection from me coating her with ceramic. 😍

More adhesive possibly?

There's more adhesive areas on the hood too. Not going to post them all.

The one that drives me nuts the most is my rear bumper area paint issues. It looks like the newest guy possible at maco painted my car in some areas honestly. The whole bumper has that on it on the top portion of the bumper and it carries into the trunk area a little as you can see in the picture as well.

Update- just back from dealer. Service manager looked at it, took some pictures and advised he was submitting it to honda as a factory defect. He felt it was a hair or something that got trapped btwn the primer and paint. Which my initial thought when I first felt it was lint in the paint or something along those lines.

None the less he said honda needs to review and respond, so we will see what that goes.

But he did explain the process and on his own volition said they would have to respray the entire roof. So that was nice not having that argument, for now....

Other than that, I don't think there were too many other concerns on my paint or trim pieces. So feel ucky there seeing some of the other stories here.

I did get the ceramic coating from the dealership, and I'm pretty sure they prep the surface (compound and polish) before applying ceramic. So I'm sure that may have help, idk 🤷‍♂️

Respray's used to be bad. However, with factories going to water based paints, 2 part urethanes applied by body shops could be better.
8th gen Civic clearcoats are an example of bad water base paint. Hopefully they've gotten better.

I had some dots too, my ppf guy said he could not get em out with light polishing. Said he has never seen such thing on a new car. Very minor though so I did not care.

I did just notice that I have a tiny bit of paint missing on the bumper where the headlight end touches it since the bumper hits the headlight there and ripped a little bit of paint out. This annoys me cuz its build quality stuff. If I ever remove the bumper I will touch it up there. Annoying issues that maybe passable on a 25k car but at 45k should not be there

Vehicles in the last 10+ years will always have paint defects if you look at them close enough, or from certain angles. I have seen specks of dirt under the clear, and paint imperfections. 99% of the time one must leave it alone.

This looks like some bubbling from the paint. The probability is that the film and heat transfer, after removal, messed it up and there was no other option.

I have learned to get to the dealer earlier than my appointment about 15 minutes. I bring a swirl-finder light (usually they wash the car) and have it ready for you. The Civic that I purchased was inspected with cardboard for the ground, bobbing my head up and down and from all angles to ensure the paint was intact. There was one small chip on the bumper and scuffs on the driver's interior door handle. I could not return it given I wanted the Touring and that silver color, plus it is going to happen no matter what you do. If one wants a perfect car, they can not drive it and garage it, so we are all in the same boat.

Very disappointed in the screen and cluster lens. They scratch very easily (micro-scratches), so I take extra precautions trying not to touch them. Honda should offer a screen protection cover, just like our iPhones. I know they have them, but it is too late at this point. We all must understand that no matter what we do, a car will eventually get scratched and damaged.

However, in this case, I would bring it back immediately. Start with your local body shop for inspection, but do not let them touch the paint, try to wet sand it, etc. as it may get worse. A lot of times this type of damage occurs a few days later and was not there upon delivery.
