Buying type r out of state. Please help me not get scammed again. When and how do I know I'm getting a legit deal and when to begin the financing?

Made a deal with a dealer and they sendt me the contract. I said I was going to be there the week after to pick it up (6 hours away). They didn't allow cash deposit and my pre approved check from my bank had to be signed off in person (I didn't know that). A few days after we agreed on the price I said fuck it I'll do Honda financing and I'll buy the car before I get there since my bank won't let me use the pre approved check without being there in person. Reason I did this is cuz i started to get sketched out by their reviews cause someone said they drove far and they switched on them when they got there. So they said yeah and they send me the financing link. I applied and 8 hours later they get back to me and say okay let us know when you'll be coming in.

So they ran my credit and are refusing to honor that they were going to finish the sale before I go in. Coming up with all this BS.

Now I'm scared my credit is going to be ruined if someone runs it again and pulls the same shit on me. I'm now committed to buying out of state (I'm in Cali). What steps do I need to take to make sure this doesn't happen again??

How old are you?

I purchased out of state I called, spoke to them over the phone, conductrd the rest of the deal over email and text.

I had them send me the purchase agreement with the final price on there I gave a credit card over the phone to place a deposit on the vehicle and then I showed up with a check from my bank. Alternatively I could have used their financing which is what they wanted but the rate was too high.

Regardless you need to have all your details finalized and the best way to do is ask for the final price and purchase agreement. That should have the VIN number along with the price and all the additional costs such as title tax licensing doc fee and everything else.

28.

See I have a sale agreement but their reviews are really sketchy as if they pull this stuff off often. I was worried about them switching up the contract when I got there. They also didn't accept deposits. Even after mentioning I want everything to be finalized over the phone they still ran my credit knowing they weren't going to do that and were going make me go in to sign. They wouldn't even go over the financing or interest rates after pulling my credit.

Every dealer has sketchy reviews. If they are 5 star overall, they are all fake. Or they are low as shit.

If they ran your credit, they are required to provide the rates. What exactly did you fill out and what did the fine print say.

Ive signed online and via FedEx for some cars, the FL5 I had to fly in to do it. They wouldn't sign remotely, but I gave a deposit on a credit card. My dealer also "accidentally" ran my credit because I was told I had to fill out the credit form as all sales have to, regardless of financing. Fine print said it was for financing. They said no. Long story I took the hit and moved on.

I filled out a financing application on their website after we agreed on a price and after I said I wanted everything finalized before I go in. The combination of the lie, reviews, telling me cash deposits aren't allowed due to owner policy, and how easy it was to negotiate after I said I'm 6 hours away made me rethink this.

1. Even if the financing is "done" prior to going there. You still have to be there (in person) to finish the actual contract to buy the car. At least I did.

2. Why would you not want to finish the buying process until you actually have eyes on the car to make sure it is undamaged from transport or some 17 year old kids mess up while "detailing".

3. Running credit is standard operating procedure if you are financing through the dealership in any capacity, not just Honda. You could simply choose a financial institution with the lowest APR for you, handle the approval through that financial institution. Get the check or have them wire the money directly to the dealership as well. But even after that. You would still have to be there in person to sign the sales contract.

4. Booooo to 5K over

I wish you the best of luck.

How are people buying out of state and shipping it to their house if you have to be there in person? I've heard of people using edocs and shipping papers via FedEx if anything 😭
Not sure when you inquired but two days ago they made a reel on Instagram that they would be willing to sell at MSRP but only for in stock 2025
I just called them after I saw the comment. Told the guy I'm getting 3-5k offers everywhere and he did not give a fuck.

Just telling you the experiences I have had. I am sure there are ways if the dealership wants to. But I assume its up to the dealership on how they process their sales.

Im regards to the 5k over asking price. My local dealer wanted the same. Found a dealership 1.5 hours away in another state. Their asking was a little over 1K under MSRP. I even had the official quote from that dealer. Showed it my local dealership. They too did not give a fuck.

Guess what?

They did NOT get my business and I had the last laugh.

This requirement is dealership dependent. I did not step foot into the dealership I purchased my Type R from. If a dealership required me to come in to complete the transaction, I would find a new one.

Sounds like a shady stealership. I’m in cali and bought out of state and arranged for my own personal transport last year. The dealer fedex’s the docs for my wet signatures.

The way I roll. If the deal or the people I am dealing with do shifty stuff that I am not into, I walk and don't even think twice.

Was going to look at an s2000 that was 2 hours away. Day of the dealer calls me saying get here quick cuz we have people coming and if you dont come fast they can buy it bla bla bla, I was in the car on my way, only 10 minutes into the trip, turned around right away. 2 months later, car is still there. He was coming up with excuses that he was trying to help me and shit.

Nope, you do shifty activity, not getting a dollar of my money

Also there are so many dealers that post deals on here/reddit/Facebook that are selling at msrp and no games.
