VW has updated the 2022 Jetta with a 1.5 turbo base engine and added a Sport trim.
The Sport trim is available with a manual transmission or 8 speed automatic (not a CVT) and includes 17" alloys, sportier suspension and electronically locking front differential.

With the torquier turbo I assume it will be faster than the Civic Sport. And has more tuning potential. I also assume Civic wins for handling, reliability and resale value.

Would you cross shop the Jetta with a Civic Sport Hatchback?

Wow! How did VW make a 1.5 turbo motor that's as weak as the 2.0 NA Honda motor? Granted it has a lot more torque.

It's torque that gets freight up the mountain. Really missing my TDI, it did everything, never exceeding 2000 RPM, now the Honda has to get wound up to 6500 Rpm before it puts out like the TDI at 2000 RPM. Also, 1.5L Jetta uses a bunch less fuel than the 2.0 Honda.
