Hi everyone,

I’m currently upgrading the braking system on my FL5 for mixed street/trackday use and I’ve gone down a fairly deep rabbit hole regarding brake pad compatibility between the FK8 and FL5.

So far I’ve already installed:
  • HEL braided brake lines (HON-4-143)
  • Motul RBF700 fluid
The OEM system actually performed surprisingly well on track, even with semi-slick front tires, although after a session I noticed a small amount of brake fluid expansion from the reservoir cap area due to heat. No pedal fade, no soft pedal, no braking loss at any point — just thermal expansion showing the system was getting close to its OEM thermal ceiling.

Now I’m looking into brake pads and things get confusing.

Ferodo Racing does NOT officially list front or rear pads for the FL5 in their catalog yet. I contacted them directly and received the following information:
  • Honda OEM references mostly return “N/D” in DRiV/Ferodo systems
  • Rear OEM reference 43022TGHA01 crosses to FDB5240
  • Ferodo currently states there are no officially validated FL5 Ferodo Racing pad references
However…

Honda Spain provided equivalence information suggesting compatibility with previous generation applications, and Brembo’s own catalog lists the FL5 OEM front pad as:
  • Brembo P 28 099
This makes me suspect the FL5 may still be using the same (or extremely similar) front Brembo pad shape as the FK8, but manufacturers simply haven’t officially validated/catalogued it yet.

I’ve also found:

  • Ferodo DS2500 references online being sold as FL5-compatible
  • Endless availability/pricing in Europe is currently pretty crazy
  • Some vendors appear to already assume FK8/FL5 compatibility
Before buying pads blindly, I wanted to ask the community:

Can any FK8 owners or anyone who has physically compared both cars confirm whether:
  • the front Brembo caliper is actually the same between FK8 and FL5?
  • the pad backing plate/shape is identical?
  • DS2500 or other FK8 references physically fit the FL5 correctly?
Especially interested in:

  • Ferodo
  • Endless
  • Project Mu
  • Paragon
  • Pagid
  • EBC Bluestuff
I suspect this is more of a catalog validation delay than a real hardware incompatibility, but I’d rather verify before ordering.

Any measurements, photos, pad shape references or firsthand experience would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

The FL5 and FK8 use the exact same front brembo brake caliper. Hell its the same caliper as the Mitsubishi Evo X. There is a slight varistion in some compounds but the pads are interchangable between the 2 chassis.

My FL5 is currently running on FK8 specific Dixcel Type Z brake pads

Thanks a lot for the clarification and detailed explanation, really appreciate it.

I actually searched the forum for “Ferodo” before opening this thread, but surprisingly that post didn’t show up in the search results for me, otherwise it would have saved me quite a bit of investigation 😅

This is extremely useful information and pretty much confirms what I suspected regarding FK8/FL5 front pad compatibility and shared Brembo hardware.

The rear pad information is also very interesting, since that was the part I still wasn’t completely sure about.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply and share real-world experience with the setup.
