Has anyone else encountered this?

Noticed a coolant smell after a recent drive so I popped the hood and noticed coolant pooled on the back of the reservoir where the bolt is. I took it to the dealership who observed fluid bubbling and leaking from the reservoir itself, not from the cap or overflow tube. The dealer ordered a new reservoir that should be here in a couple days. All under warranty, obviously.

Admittedly a minor issue but I didn't see any existing related threads so I figured I'd add it to the record.

2023 FL5 purchased in June
~1000 miles
Factory fluids
No mods or tinkering
Car is driven gently and has only seen redline once or twice
Temps seemed fine and there was still plenty of fluid remaining in the reservoir

Unfortunately, pretty common failure and there are some posts on the fb groups with the same issue. Shouldn't be happening so soon, but best to go with Radium or Mishimoto expansion tank tbh.

I don't have FB so that makes sense why I didn't see anything, lol.

Good to know. That Radium one does look pretty nice...

Should be covered under warranty. I'd get it replaced by Honda and then upgrade to one of the beefy aftermarket ones. At least then you'll have the stock one that isn't leaking if you decide to switch back.

Radium is the more popular option I would say, most of the FK8 guys in the area have Radium and it is good quality for sure.

Had this issue come up with about 2700 miles on the car right before Thanksgiving. No engine bay mods on the car.

It sure made a mess on the back corner of the engine under/behind the reservoir. I need to make a dealership appointment to get it replaced under warranty but then I have a Radium coolant tank on its way to swap out.

Just moved the car out of my driveway this morning and noticed coolant on the ground. I looked at the back of the tank and coolant was pooling up in the back corner of the reservoir. No mods whatsoever on the car and just turned 900 miles. This is rather disheartening to be honest.

@earfejj Yeah, don’t get too bent out of shape. I understand the stress, but it’s fixable under warranty. It’ll be fine. Many people on the forum are dealing with small issues here or there. The bright side is that I haven’t read about ANY of these cars suffering major problems.

Oh, I know. Just more of an annoyance really. I'm hoping it's just a bad batch during manufacturing.

Pain in the butt I hate dealing with dealers and the service crap. Yes they’re are good people and techs but have had plenty of issues over the years getting work done at the dealer. Reason I buy a Honda is to avoid issues and so I can work on them.:)

Well a little update. Just took it in today and was told by the master tech that Honda is aware of the issue. They are providing me with a loaner until the updated tank arrives mid January.

@earfejj I would not let my car sit for a month at a busy shop. Accidents happen when the car is sitting for days/weeks and not on a lift being actively worked on. Ask me how I know. Maybe they have a holding facility separate from the shop? It’s definitely worth looking into. I mean, I’m sure if anything were to happen, they’d take care of it. But if the headache is avoidable, that’d be ideal.

Updated? Like Honda is rolling out a new tank to replace the existing one?

I absolutely agree. I will be picking up the car and bringing it back to my home until the part is in.

I'm not quite sure yet. That is just what the tech relayed to me over the phone. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get some additional information regarding the "updated" tank.
