FL5 MRT Resonator Delete Question

Hello Friends, looking for some input.

I purchased an certified pre-owned FL5 and noticed it was significantly louder than my previous car (FK8). Turns out, the previous owner did a resonator delete on the exhaust. (How this passes as certified pre-owned, I'm not sure, but I'm otherwise very happy with the car).

The car does have a "booming" loudness to it, particularly between 3-4K RPM. Enough to not hear the turbo whistle from my PRL intake, and make me use my teaching voice when having a conversation. But it's not loud enough to keep my son awake. (He's 16 months and can fall asleep pretty easily in the back)



A couple of questions:

• I don't have a picture of my own car, but I'm attaching a photo of another user's res delete. My setup the same. Is this a "front resonator delete" or "mid resonator delete"? Seems like an obvious question, but I swear I read / heard that this is a front resonator delete.

• I'm considering replacing the pipe with the MRT sport touring midpipe. Is this the right product for the job? Will this make a difference in sound? (MRT's site says you can hear more turbo whistle with their product)

Yes, I was looking to get that midpipe. Do you have any experience with it? How would it sound with the mid resonator already gone?

If you do this (MRT front resonator delete), already having the mid resonator removed, it will be louder than what it is right now and may not be what you are looking for.

Best bet, outside of replacing the exhaust, would be to install a vibrant resonator at that location where they removed the OEM resonator already to ease the exhaust tone and go from there.

As others have said, you don't want the MRT piece, that is just taking out another resonator whereas it sounds like you want to add back a resonator. I'm honestly surprised it made that much of a difference. I did the MRT piece, removing the smaller resonator, and the difference is SUBTLE. Did they make any changes to the muffler? Removing resonators or maybe changing out the resonated exhaust tips?

As others have said, you don't want the MRT piece, that is just taking out another resonator whereas it sounds like you want to add back a resonator. That would be my guess as well (maybe the rear muffler is also deleted?). I have my mid resonator deleted, just like OP and it's not that loud. As a side note, if the rear muffler hasn't been mess with and the valve is still intact, then check to see if the fuse for the valve is pulled. If it is, put it back and set engine to comfort which will make it sound almost (90%) stock!

^ sound in comfort is barely discernable from stock. Remove both in comfort it becomes audible but not by much. Leave it alone and put it in comfort.

It turns out, the previous owner also did the fuse pull trick to keep the valve open all the time. I haven't checked on the removal of the muffler yet.

But for those who are wondering if a resonator delete voids the warranty, I think it's safe to say that it doesn't. As I said in the original post, this car was sold to me as a certified pre-owned and still has a warranty attached to it.

Please post sound clip. I have never seen anyone done the mid only one.
I have seen front and both, but never just mid. I am doing just the front to start, what youre hearing probably is the drones.

Sound clip won't be able to truly reproduce it. Heck, even the stock exhaust sounds loud given the right recording condition. Unfortunately, you'll have to find someone with that exact same mod to truly judge it for yourself in person. I was lucky enough to find someone near me to have a listen, which convinced me to remove just the mid. Doing just the front would only gain you about 10% of volume, which is barely noticeable even with the fuse pulled - IMHO. The shop that did mine had done quite a bit of FL5s and the owner told me that most people that initially came in to do just the front ends up coming back to do the mid as well.

did you by chance have the vibrant resonator installed? If so, what size is recommended?

I keep seeing part 1792 as the recommended part, but the amazon shop says that won't fit the FL5. Thanks.
