Some good news if you've got a moment to "spare" - I know, bad pun, but I received the following email response from Mr. Crafford at Dream Automotive (UK) subsequent to an inquiry about a spare tire kit for the FL5. With his kind permission I share it below.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Raymond,

We do not have a specific spare wheel kit for the FL5 listed, although we have had it confirmed that the FK8 spare wheel kit will work and fit iin the trunk.
Please see the product listing here Genuine-honda-replacement-space-saver-spare-wheel-kit

Kind Regards
Phil Crafford

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It should also be noted that fitting the kit into the FL5 cargo area, as previously well documented by Dallman, will raise the lid/floor several inches, which will need to be taken into consideration vs. storing in a tire bag and placing elsewhere in the vehicle. The Parts Dept. at a local dealership thinks a FL5 specific spare tire kit may be in development, but could offer nothing to verify it. Given an increasing number of punctures, flats, etc. coupled with the messy and limited life (i.e., , sealant expiration) of the supplied inflator, it seems like a needed accessory for the FL5. Finally, I contacted Honda USA in regards to a solution and was assigned a "case", but haven't received a reply as yet.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Corporate's pathetic response and basically "we're clueless and don't give a rat's ass."

"Thank you for contacting American Honda regarding your message for information about spare tire kit for the 2023 Civic Type R. We want to thank you for providing us the opportunity to respond to your message.

For information you can visit the Honda eStore site located here: https://estore.honda.com. Do note, it may be best to contact your local Honda dealership for further information regarding accessories.

Please visit the Owners site and select “Dealers” to locate your nearest (Honda/Acura) dealer: (https://owners.honda.comor https://owners.acura.com)

Sincerely,
American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

That is a very high price and doesn't include the tire. I think you can get the same kit from another source for a lot less.

I searched for "Honda 06421-TGH-A33ZATemporary Kit" and found at least one hit for under $200 that claimed to fit the 2021 FK8.

Earlier in this thread is a pic of the FL5-specific kit in a prototype CTR. I'm waiting for that and will carry a full size spare plus tools in the interim.

No problem. My main concern is how much room is left after a tire kit installed. I carry a ice chest for fishing all the time. it was really close with my FK8.

The FK8 kit raises the floor ~1in more than needed. You can clearly see that in the foam that sits inside the wheel. The FL5 kit is not that bad.

From what I have seen the FL5 kit will lose more space. I have installed the tire in under the floor cover as a reference. The tire well is very shallow compared to the FK8.

One last thing even though i showed the spare would fit on the front I would never drive the car with it there. With our limited slip differential you could really mess up the differential with that rubber band up front. I'll always put it on the back and move a good tire to the front. Unless you have a full size spare. I have one of each.

Can you share a photo of the full-sized spare in the cargo area or just of it alone?

The full size spare is a extra wheel off my FK8 that got ruined by a car wash.

Here’s the pictures. First of all i was able to carry my ice chest in my fk8 with the spare tire installed under the tray. I don’t have the same amount of space to do it now without dropping the larger back seat. This was without the cover or tray in place. So I think we are losing at least 2-3 inchs maybe more.

Many thanks! Do you also carry a full-sized spare sometimes? Given you comment about the limited slip differential, it seems a full-size spare is warranted for long trips, yes?

On a long trip yes. But local if I get a flat I put the spare on the rear and move that tire to the front. A little more work but much safer.
