Today, I received some great news: my wheel setup is ready and should arrive at my door within the next month or so. The owner of VT Forge Wheels has been incredibly helpful and communicative. A big thanks to @PWR2W8T for showcasing these wheels on his car—seeing how good they look convinced me! I’m really pleased with the results.

I went with 19x9.5 +50 wheels. I really don’t like how the +45 offset looks on the rear of these cars, so I chose something a little closer to OEM. I saw a couple of FK8s running that setup and thought it looked nice. I couldn’t find much info on the FL5 chassis since the JDM setups usually stick to +45 or higher. These custom offsets let me get something that actually fits the styleI was trying to get!

Last update for now until my wheels arrive! I finally swapped out the brake lines for HEL braided ones and also changed the clutch line. I removed a weird contraption that I honestly have no idea what it was, but the metal lines were connected to it. From what I’ve gathered online, the clutch delay valve is actually inside the slave cylinder, based on the posts I’ve seen.

Since the original fitting wasn’t great, I went ahead and installed the MAPerformance line—it was super straightforward to put in. Next step is bleeding the whole system, which I’ll probably do over the weekend. No rush on that, though!

Today was a great day! I was on my way back from Austin when my wife asked if I knew what was on the front porch. I had no clue—turns out, my wheels had finally arrived!

They look amazing. I’ll get the tires mounted soon, but just setting them next to the car, they seem like they’ll have the perfect amount of poke on both the front and rear. I weighed them, and they came in at almost 25 pounds each, in case anyone’s curious. I’m not chasing lap records, so that weight works perfectly fine for me.

From the time I placed the order to the day they showed up at my door, it was about three months and a couple of extra days. Andy, the owner, was super responsive and answered all my questions along the way. Sure, they may not be the “purest” choice, but I love them—and I’m the one paying the bill!

Nice job bro! Love your build! I’m not sure if it matters any at this point bc of your suspension mods but have u considered the Integra suspension control module? I swapped it out and made a huge difference in ride comfort.

I really enjoy this car. For me, and where I live, it handles amazingly. I don’t know if I’m just getting older or if I’m used to older cars, but this one feels great. Of course, it’s not an E-Class, but it’s still very enjoyable—I drive it about 600 miles a week!

I’m not pushing the car to its limits, but I genuinely love driving it. When I lower it, I’m planning to go with H&R springs because they’re friendly for my driveway 😂. I’ll also add the DSC module, but that’s just to complement the car’s electronics and match the spec on the springs.

Like I’ve posted a couple of times before, my wife and I took a trip to Austin in +R mode. Sure, the streets here aren’t perfect, but they’re waaay better than where I’m originally from. I even asked her when we got home if she noticed any difference, and she said the ride wasn’t upsetting at all. She’s used to riding in all my “ratchet” project cars, and she actually said this one felt more convenient and comfortable than my Evo 10.

I bought my car in either June or July—I can’t remember exactly—and it already has 35k miles on the clock. That should tell you how much I love it. Thanks for all the encouragement and input; I really appreciate it!.

That’s a lot of mileage! I did a long drive last year. Ct to FL to GA to Alabama, and finally back to CT in about 5 days. The Type R is arguably the best combination of handling, braking, interior space, engagement, value (which includes depreciation), reliability, curb appeal and MPG you can get. Honda knocked it out of the park with the FL5. My favorite part of the car are the seats. As much support as Porsche buckets but with tons more livability. I ended up getting front seat covers (gasp) because I didn’t want coffee stains or discolorment from the sun (I have to park outside year round).

Glad to see that you are completely invested in the FL5. Great job and Keep it up! Post pics of the rims and wheels once they are mounted!

Sure, will do! I hope the pair with the Continental DWS06 turns out to be a better daily driver than the Pilot Sport. Don’t get me wrong—they’re amazing tires—but for my needs, on the two really cold days we get in Texas 😂, I end up borrowing my wife’s SUV. She then has to drive my 2006 Scion xA because she works close to home.

It’s not that I don’t trust the Scion—it’s 20 years old and still runs like a champ—but I just want my family to be safe. I can handle the hassle if something happens 😂.

The wheels are finally mounted on the car! I’m just waiting on one last tire that wasn’t available, so I need to hold off a bit until it arrives.

I’m also working on a solution to install the oil temperature and oil pressure gauges inside the car without using the drain plug as the location. My plan is to use the Wunderladen Oil Pressure Sensor, which mounts on the cylinder head, and proceed from there.

I decided to stick with the OEM tire size. Even if I went slightly smaller or larger, I’d still get confused about the offset, so OEM feels like the safest choice. Sure, a lot of people have strong opinions about the origin of their parts, but honestly, I couldn’t care less. I’m sharing this in case anyone else wants to take the same approach and needs a reference point.

Looking ahead, I plan to go with adjustable suspension parts next year and gather more information on how to improve the car’s adjustments.

This is going to be all for now. Even if I don’t like it, I’ll just cave and move on with the spoon exhaust. I’m not going to keep going back and forth, thinking about how I could get another whole car for the price of it. Sure, that thought crosses my mind, but I really give up!

Next, I’ll probably grab a couple of adjustable suspension parts for the rear. Do I need them? Probably not, but I just want to dial in the alignment for daily driving. After that, I’ll look into a tune after I have the exhaust and maybe swap out the front lip.
