As someone who works on the law enforcement side in South Florida. Whatever trackers you put in the car are usually found in a lot or lake some where in East Broward with the last signal being hours before we get the stolen vehicle call from you.

However, re-vins have been on the rise.

FOR EXAMPLE: i can run a clear as day black 2025 Dodge Challenger Hellcats tag and it’ll come back to just a black 2025 Dodge Challenger.

The vins on the windshield, engine and door match the ones assigned to the tag, everything seems to be ok to most non-car guy cops. But as soon as you plug in a OB2 reader into that black Dodge Challenger and the real VIN pops up on the reader, you run that one and it comes back stolen.

That’s multiple times everyday in South Florida and probably most big cities.

Im sure it’s crazy still. I don’t deal with any of that to often now a days. In another unit.

I’d guess half of the stolen cars are put in cargo containers on ships and the other half are reVINed.

You would think Flock would help a lot. We might get a ping or two.

But most of the time these thief’s replace the plate with a temp tag as soon as they’re out of the immediate area so we get no alerts.

Of course we try to get security camera footage and find out estimated times and direction of travel and sometimes we can see the new fake plate.

These dudes know the game though, they know if they leave the real plate on then we will track it .

Jokes aside, that seriously sucks dude. It pisses me off that we live in a world where we have to constantly watch our backs. And even then, there’s still little we can do (within reason) to truly prevent shit from happening. And if someone isn’t trying to steal your stuff, then they’re looking to vandalize it just for the hell of it. I hope everything gets sorted out for you in the best way possible.

There are several attack vectors right now that people are getting hit by, its really alot to type. But if people are interested in avoiding things like this, ignition, CAN bus, and OBD2 protection are critical mass. igla just happens to provide all three and is probably the best possible option, especially when paired with a compustar t13 or similar. That car ain't going nowhere unless its put on a lift.

Where I live, in central WV, the cartels have fleets of slantback wreckers, parked in barns all over the county. They can scope a hit..drive to it, have it dragged on the back and away in 10 minutes..then that mark is transferred into a privately owned, bought at auction U-Haul box van, and moved to another location, posing as a auto repair shop and dismantled or arranged to be shipped out of the country..When the county sherriff is on the payroll, it is difficult to capture the cartels. These "hollow mafia" cartels have been operation all over Appalachia since just after WWII and are deeply organised.
