Trying my Best to Improve Intake Temps...

Saw a couple of videos online of the Spoon FL5 and noticed they heavily covered certain engine components around the Turbo with heat insulation materials and they removed the shroud under the hood vent.

Figured if it works for them I should do it too before going back out to the circuit. I also added the Spoon Filter and flushed out the brake fluid with Castrol SRF, I was running Motul 660 before.

Nice. What material and where did you purchase from? I’m interested in doing the same. I actually have the Spoon air filter on order. I had Motul 660 and carbotech track pads on my FK8 when I ran it at WTGI. Seems more than enough. Likely would do the same on the FL5 once it is broken in.

I’m hoping to be in miami in the near future for work so will touch base with you. But if you can log your normal cruising intake temps I should be able to do the same in the meantime. I will be running the TNIA event in Daytona in September.

I wonder if the $$$ Ti pipe from PRL actually helps? It would at least be a lot easier to shield/wrap vs the OEM setup.

Titanium is really good for heat management, but being on top of the turbo all that radiant heat will still warm up the pipe pretty good. For me its a design flaw the way they packaged it. They should have done the turbo inlet the other way straight to the intake and put the downpipe on the other side. Would have kept aircharge cooler for sure.

The intercooler is fairly efficient (and a better design than before). It just needs more airflow. Removing the hood vent shroud will help a fair amount!

The stock intercooler heat soaks fairly quickly. A good pull of a couple of gears will increase aircharge temps quickly and reduce power.

Heat tape the titanium inlet (i know ill get flogged for saying it), wrap the turbo and dont use that pipercross its sucking in all the hot air under the hood. Im waiting for PRL or eventuri.

Yeah I agree reflective tape or lava blanket will help with irradiating heat. But people will have a hard time covering such a beautiful piece. ?

Has anyone installed the PRL lava blankets and if so can they really be installed without disassembly of related parts? They are on the pricey side, but according to PRL effective at reducing heat, and able to be carefully slid on without taking anything off, although it would be easier to do so.
