Hello All!

Just took delivery of #5466 here in Toronto, ON. Really lucky to have secured the allocation last year, Canadians are having a hell of a time getting their hands on these. This is the first and only 2023 allocation that our dealer secured; their next one comes in 2024, and of course is already spoken for.

265/30R19, 19x9.5 +60 wheels put away as they would immediately be destroyed on our roads. Threw on our FK8's second setup for the time being, and I have to admit it looks super beefy! Steering is a little less responsive, but the ride comfort is leagues ahead. Comfort feels like 11th Gen Civic Si / new Integra, Sport firms up and the steering loads up nicely in turns. +R is pretty stiff and not pleasant enough to be just puttering around in but it's not crashy either over bad road surfaces as it was with the stock wheel setup that was on for the first day.

This would be a great Touring/Road Trip setup; we will end up swapping for some 18x9.5 +45, 275/35 later on but wanted to test this while a different setup is being tested on the FK8. Zero rub with 4 occupants + trunk full, and it closes the fender to wheel gap as it's taller than the OE wheel & tire package. 120kmh/75mph indicated on the dash is actually 124kmh/77.5mph on the accurate Waze GPS speed readout.

Stock Height - this setup will 100% rub on a lowered FL5
Superspeed RF05RR - 18x9.5 +38
Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 - 265/40R18

it's hard to compare the performance of our FK8 with the FL5 since the FK8 puts down 410whp and 380wtq, has $10K USD in suspension and chassis upgrades, $4K USD on brakes, and is set up to be pretty manic track weapon. However, the FL5 feels much more refined inside and out, the tech is excellent, and as a factory package it's more ready than the FK8 felt when stock. The FL5 will end up making similar power figures, but won't be as extreme a build as the FK8 is.

The FL5 goes in for a color change wrap tomorrow, and when it gets back we are hoping that we have a new prototype exhaust ready very soon to test out. Criteria is:
- Valved
- 3" T304 SS
- Front Pipe Included
- Resonated and Non-Resonated, and even Double Resonated options to eliminate drone once a Downpipe is added
- Multiple Tip options

Once the exhaust is on, and we've shot a few clips, it's time to add some power. Thread will be updated with info about the:
- 27WON 3" Downpipe. Testing with and without a Hondata Reflash.
- Hondata Unlock and Reflash
- 27WON Kuro Drop-in Turbo once 27WON releases an IC Kit. May choose to go with a PRL IC in the interim if 27WON is far out
- Intake. Eventuri should have options for the FL5 soon. Highly considering that since their FK8 offering on our car is brilliant
- Oil Catch Can. Mishimoto or Radium, either PCV can is good insurance

Suspension upgrades planned:
- 27WON Strut Bar w/Brake Brace
- Rear Sway Bar - undecided yet on which to go with
- Springs - highly likely it'll be Spoon
- Whiteline Anti Lift Kit
- Whiteline Adjustable Lower Ball Joints
- SPC Rear Camber Kit
- Spoon Rigid Collars
- Ultra Racing Chassis Braces

Transmission:
- Acuity Stage 3 once available
- Acuity Shift Knob + Collar
- Amsoil Synchromesh Fluid

Brakes:
- TBD

Exterior:
- Spoon or similar Front Lip
- Jets Vinyl Touches
- Color Change Wrap

Interior:
- Dream Automotive Seat Covers

More to come. Not going full racecar like we have/did with the FK8, there's no need for it :)

This set up caught my eye. Love the look. Would you mind taking more photos of it please? I'm also wondering how far the wheels stick out from stock. Are they flush with the fenders? Any poke?

Also, how is the turn-in on the 265/40R18's compared to stock?

More pics as requested of the 265/40. The tiniest amount of poke, that can be dialed out with some additional negative camber with an alignment. If you have a +45 offset wheel there will be no poke with factory alignment.

Turn-in is not as hyper responsive as it is with the factory setup, but with it's not floaty at all. The ECS 02 tire competes and is some aspects exceeds the Michelin PS4S so we've still got all the grip we need.

The car then spent time with MBRP Exhaust, being their development car for the upcoming exhaust. Here were my requests from what I've learned with my own FK8 and the community at large when it comes to an exhaust that we want to run:

1) Triple Tips
2) Configurable Muffler/Resonator options
3) No Drone - shouldn't be a problem with a stock downpipe, but most can't accomplish that with an aftermarket downpipe
4) Valved - FL5 has a valved exhaust, so let's retain that
5) No rattle - doesn't need to be said, but some FK8 options have/had rattle, which really hurt their reputation
6) Configurable Tips - not the most important, but MBRP already offers that for the FK8 Exhaust so why not

^ Above is the preview of the first prototype that we had on the car, zero drone with stock downpipe, perfect OEM+ sound, and Valves would open a little in Sport, fully in +R.

Wheel Inspiration :)

Superspeed RF03RR 18x9.5 +45
Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 275/35R18

Suspension: stock (at this time)

We're super happy with the Canadian brand, Superspeed Wheels, they've been making Flow Formed/Forged, and Fully Forged Wheels for a few years now and have blown up in popularity locally. This is our 4th set from the brand in 3 years for 3 different cars - excellent price point, sub-20lbs, and haven't suffered a bend or crack on tens of thousands of miles of road use & track use so they've got two thumbs up from us!

The Conti's are some of the best in the biz, goes without saying it's one of the top performance summer tires out there. I really loved the ECS 01 on my Si, and am very happy with the ECS 02's on the FL5 now! Dry grip is superb, quiet road noise and refined ride, and yesterday I got a message from a friend and customer that his Indy 500's were sketchy in the rainy conditions we had while I was comfortably cruising at 80mph to work with not a single incident. The step down to an 18" and step up to a 35 profile really helps provide a more compliant ride over rough surfaces.

I always say to friends and customers that I'm not a "Wheel Baller" by any means but I will always put the best tires on our cars, and this is it! This setup sits perfectly flush, and has not rub at all over bumps or with any passengers and equipment in the car.

Tuning!

Hondata FlashPro - ECU removed from the car, packaged carefully with lots of wrapping to minimize risk of transportation damage, and sent over to Hondata HQ in California for the unlock service. Print and Fill this form, and include it in your package: https://hondata.com/downloads/jailbreak-form-fl5-us.pdf

We had our ECU back in 8 days, and would've been even faster if it didn't have to cross borders. ECU came back unlocked, and was ready to accept the Hondata FlashPro units that we already have in stock. Same unit as FK8, so keep your FlashPro if you're trading in for an FL5.

Hondata states that a 93 Basemap offers a bump of +45HP and +50ftlbs. We weren't too concerned with the basemap, there's more upcoming for the car that we talk about in the next post so the FL5 only had a basemap for a week.

All-in-all, the thought of sending your ECU out is more nerve-wracking than it should be, it was quite a seamless process overall so don't be too concerned if you're on the fence about it!

Curious as to what Individual settings affect the exhaust valve? Is is the Engine Sound setting or the Engine setting or both?

The exhaust flap is tied to the specific drive mode and not the engine sound. Engine sound alters the artificial sound generated in the cabin. So the exhaust valve’s behavior changes based on Comfort, Sport or R+.

Having to choose here which child I like more :p

The FK8 is certainly more raw since it has the absolute book thrown at it for parts. It's on a hoist right now getting even more upgrades. It was also the car that I've had more experiences in per say such as track days, Tail of the Dragon, and it's also my personal car so there's that.

The FL5 is owned by a very good friend who's given it to Unity to have as a shop build, so it's mine and not mine at the same time, but it's still special. Love how wide it is, the color pops, it's an overall more refined package, and the interior is miles ahead.
