What did you do to your FL5 today?

Big day today. Paid an uncomfortable amount of money for a really fancy ceramic coating from the best shop in town, put in my 3D Mats Kagu liners, installed my ZL1 rock guards. Coming soon: I ordered the PRL RMM. I never put a full RMM in my FK8, just the mount inserts. This will be a change for me. I feel like the engine rocks back and forth a bit too much coming off throttle. I'm also struggling with the clutch bite point. I got used to having less engine movement which makes it easier to feel through the pedal. Hopefully the PRL mount fixes those issues without introducing too much NVH with the AC on.

Look forward to hearing your feedback on the prl rmm as I’m struggling with clutch and gas pedal feel as well. Most likely going to go this route so trying to gather as much feedback from different people as possible.

If there was an event closer to me, I would do it. Even if you don't plan to do anything with it in the short term, at least it's done, so you don't have to worry about it later.

What made you decide to go the COBB route?

Our 2025 FL5 was the develoment MY25 car for COBB. We went COBB because of preference as we've had years of experience working with COBB and their protuners (FK8 and multiple other platforms as an customer and as a partner). Also the Accessport is nice to use as a simple ODB2 code reader, gauge device and logging tool. Their customer support and engineering support is always top notch in our books, too.

And they're slated to release their own flex fuel support through their CAN Gateway module soon-ish. The only thing is they can't turn off/supress emission related CELs, or force readiness on I/M monitors like other tuning platforms can if you plan to run cat-less or something (they work closely with CARB and EPA). So take that into consideration if thats what you want/need. We are in a non-emissions county so we dont really care about that, nor would we run cat-less either way as the high-end cats like GESI have essentially no restrictions anyway.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the two major tuning platforms - COBB or Hondata. All preference.

It was a confluence of factors that tipped the scales for me in COBB Tuning's favor. There's a lot to pressure test so I'll only touch on a handful of items. I placed a premium on the factors applicable to my use case and filtered out the extraneous bits (e.g., the noise). The versatility of a handheld device, out of the box iOS and Windows compatibility, end-user experience, the network of COBB ProTuners familiar with the FK8/FL5, cost, and my personal experience with the company over the last 20 years (4 platforms - GD STi, CT9A Evo, 718 Cayman GT4, and now FL5) carried weight.

On the last piece, and I cannot stress this enough, I appreciate being able to talk to a human being, on the phone (or via text), if I have general, technical, and/or miscellaneous questions or concerns. I won't get into details, but they helped me tremendously when I ran into some issues (NOT COBB related) with the Porsche in a way most companies would not. Matt does a good job ensuring CX and QA are on point and that comes across. The approach is intentional, effective and I appreciate it.

Today there is no CAN Flex Fuel support; however, it is on their product roadmap and will be brought to market in the future along with other hard parts. Curious to examine the pros and cons of those offerings when the time comes.

FWIW - I'm not a brand loyalist. I've used a handful of EMS over the years - Hondata, TurboXS, COBB Tuning, and Opensource and they all have their pros/cons. Anyhow, we should all rejoice in having solid options. Pick what makes sense for your use case and don't look back.

Long lost twin? Previously also had an STI (GV) that was COBB protuned, currently shop cars are 981 Cayman track car thats COBB Protuned by John Tecce at BGB, FK8 (not protuned yet), FL5 protuned by Alan Jackson at Edge Autosport, and a Gen 3 Raptor that is also going to be COBB protuned.

And yes, Matt is fantastic to work with! He was a tremendous help when Alan found some bugs on the Accesstuner software for the MY25 FL5 and worked with Matt to get engineering to release updates to GA.

So I had a fun day yesterday installing the KTuned short shifter and rear vent and USB charging ports. Let me start off by saying this is not designed for the FL5 from the get. Unless they messed up somewhere with the description and pictures. But i had to cut 1.5” from the front mount plate so the communication cable can go under the shifter body. This shifter also sits higher than oem on its lowest setting, which is kinda frustrating because i wanted the shifter to sit lower than the oem one. I’ve reached out to Ktuned to see what they say and sent them pictures. On the plus side the gate and throw feels short and solid. With smooth engagement.

Please share more detail on your feedback as I’m going to be installing mine in a couple weeks also. Do you feel like you’ve lost the edge the CTR has that makes it feel special? That is the one thing I’m afraid of. Thanks
