Do sneakers count if I put wheels on them?
Update from Hondata with FK8 comparison:

-----Original post----
307whp / 327lbft

Power seems expected but that torque seems quite high. Mind you this is 93 octane. I think it's 91 octane recommended.

Here's 2018 on Dynojet with I think 91 octane (293whp/283lbft): https://dsportmag.com/the-tech/test-tune-2018-honda-civic-type-r-part-1/

Also notice much smoother curve on FL5.

Of course conditions could be different.

When I read this earlier, I couldn't believe my eyes. Does Honda tend to underquote?

So a whopping 12 hp increase. Not sure how to react to this news, given that itā€™s now a $60-70k car thatā€™s also heavier.

Thereā€™s more torque, which is always good, but Iā€™m dying to see how this translates to real world performance.

Hoping there are a handful of videos being made right now with some straight line pulls vs the FK8.

More torque makes 1st and 2nd gear more useless than it is in the FK8.

If you ask Honda corporate, they'll tell they've 'updated' the way in which they now calculate horspower for their cars. Hence most of their current line-up dynoes higher than official specs.

How is this "news?" They quoted a 10hp increase over FK8 and it put down 12 more. Seems exactly what it was supposed to be.

Nothing of a surprise, keep in mind the new motor controls boost better than the previous gen.

We need a comparison FK8 vs FL 5 0-60 and 1/4 mile

With the turbo motors Honda went with the "worst case" ratings. Ie, hottest, most humid day, etc. BMW does the same and their engines are WAY underrated.
More torque makes 1st and 2nd gear more useless than it is in the FK8.
FL5 does have slightly taller final drive so it is probably negligible. Maybe it has improved traction control too.

They should have a graph from another stock FK8 done on that same dyno that can be compared.

I have no idea if this dyno reads high or low to determine whether the car is underrated.

In addition to taller final drive, wider and stickier tires also help too.

The link I sent for FK8 was from. Dynojet as well. It was most likely on 91 octane.

Note to all that Dynojet was known to put out higher numbers than dynos with rollers, at least in the past that I can remember. But again, that's why I looked specifically for FK8 Dynojet comparison.

For those hung up on small changes, straight line acceleration and high price, I don't see it that way. There's a lot going into this car. That torque curve improvement alone shows how much they've put into this engine. Peak power is just a number but doesn't get close to telling the story. I think the rest of the car has improved so much. I don't agree that we should be charged so much by dealers, but that's not anything Honda can do, unlike in Japan where they own the dealers.

Just so we're all clear 307-293=14 not 12... So it's a whopping 14 WHP gain in fact
I assume some of that is difference of 91 vs 93 octane plus environmental differences as well. We'll need someone from this forum to do a dyno of their fk8 and someone's fl5 on the same day, same machine, same fuel...haha

Anyone want to volunteer?

Even in a dynojet the numbers varies from shop to shop. Not all of them read equal and I'm talking about the same type. The settings of the machine play a big role here. The important thing of a dyno is to get a baseline and improve it.

I agree about the dealers overcharging the car. My current ride is a constant reminder of that issue. Let's see if I have better luck at lease-end.
