You can give the vial to the tech and have them collect a sample mid-drain.If I do them then yes but I was planning to have the next one done at Honda when the maintenance minder comes up.
I didn't cut the filter open to see what was in it but I think it would have been fine to wait longer than 1100 miles based on the oil analysis. Copper was high but I don't know if it is a problem at that level.anybody better versed in oil analyses care to chime in whether this supports an early change or wait til the MM tells me to?
I'm certainly no expert, but I noticed that the flashpoint is below the "should be value" at just 1100 miles driven. Do you short trip your car often? That is an indication of some fuel in the oil sample. That is not an uncommon thing especially with a small displacement turbo-charged DI engine. I'm not sure I would run it out until MM calls for an oil change as that is about 10,000 miles. I'm currently waiting for my first oil analysis to come back on a 6000 run.anybody better versed in oil analyses care to chime in whether this supports an early change or wait til the MM tells me to?
I noticed the flashpoint data also and I do have a 10 mile commute so it is mostly short trips. No noticeable fuel smell to the oil though.I'm certainly no expert, but I noticed that the flashpoint is below the "should be value" at just 1100 miles driven. Do you short trip your car often? If that were actually required then Honda would have put that in their maintenance schedule/minder programming to remove liability from damaged engines that had their factory oil fill. There are no reports that I am aware of that have shown that replacing the factory fill early to correlate to engine longevity. Purely psychological IMO.How many miles were on the car when you took delivery? I'm an advocate for early changes and do 500 miles, 1500, then 5k intervals. A new car is ran through extremely short trips before its sold, gas station, inspection drive, moving around the lot etc,. That's a good enough reason for me to change early, not including removing break in metal, assembly lube, etc.
It is highly unlikely anyone will have an oil related failure following manufacturer guidelines. Changing oil early is something that has been done by enthusiasts for a long time. I've never had a performance car burn oil, or have an oil related failure with my current oil change protocol. If that were actually required then Honda would have put that in their maintenance schedule/minder programming to remove liability from damaged engines that had their factory oil fill. I agree.Honda claims this is "break-in" oil and should be changed ~5k miles or at the first MM. I don't think this stuff is all that critical to be honest, the main thing is to not run oil too long/hot.
